SC Spoiler info request

Went to the Chatsworth Porsche Pageant event on Sunday (sadly in Mrs Sneaky's MX-5 as the SC had failed its MOT and the mechanic who'll fix it has gone to Florida for 2 weeks!) and really enjoyed looking at the wide range of Porsche on view. The great weather helped of course!

Anyway having inspected the SCs and 3.2 Carreras on display, I've realised that the rear spoiler on my car differs from all the other 'teatrays' I've seen. It has no body colour paint applied - ie it's all just the black of the original material. (See picture to understand what I'm getting at!). My car is a 1980 with full sport spec - though obviously this could have been upgraded at some point in its life after delivery.

Can any one help with these questions, please:

- Has anyone else got a spoiler finished like this?

- Did cars supplied new with the teatray have a body-colour panel both on top around the grille and below where it meets the engine lid panel?

- If so were these some kind of applique panels stuck to the plastic spoiler, or simply paint?

- How easy to upgrade to the 'normal' look if I wanted to? (I quite like the all black, fortunately).

Thanks

That looks like a turbo spoiler, however never seen one in all the same material, mine is a plastic body with a rubber lip on it

If you are happy with it being all black keep it that way! The Turbo spoiler is an SC option from 1980 but as you've noticed paint is usually applied to the rear lower section and the inner section. If you want more info ask the P.C.G.B. archivist Peter Cook. Any recommended Porsche body shop should be able to paint this fairly cheaply.

Thanks for the replies. I think I may have the two sections sprayed white if/when the car needs some paint attention in the future.

I actually quite like it - not something you see every day thats for certain which makes it a bit different.

Is the spoiler all one moulding? The spoiler on my SC is fiberglass for the bottom part that mounts on to the engine cover and fiberglass for the grill and polyurethane for the wing part of the spoiler. The polyurethane part of the spoiler has metal inside it to allow it to be fixed to the fiberglass part which is OK until the metal rusts, then the spoiler becomes misshaped or starts to come away from the base. If yours is all one material you should not have this problem.
