I know its not a Porsche but its for charity and I think the selling line back in its day was it could out perform a 944. We are competing in the scally rally this year taking our carlton gsi 24v beast all the way to italy (rimini) for charity. If you have never heard about the scally rally then their website is here http://www.scallyrally.co.uk/ Our charity is "Against Breast Cancer " and we are hoping to raise £1000 for them.

The Carlton has done 170000 miles so we figure another 3k should be easy for the old beast!!!!

If you would like to donate to our charity for this event please go here: http://www.justgiving.com/broadside2rimini it is a good cause so anything you can give will be appreciated. **If you would like to have a name or logo displayed on our car when we get the graphics applied then contact me and we can sort something out for a small donation to our charity**

We will keep you all updated as to how we get on but im in no doubt if will be a funny adventure"¦ long live the carlton beast!!!

Here are some pic's of the car it before we put the graphics on:

I had one of them when they were still worth something. It wasn't a bad car, and that's a proper one with analogue dials and everything isn't it?

I'd say it was probably similar to an S2 in performance, possibly not quite as quick.

Damn, another nail in the "944's are not that quick" coffin. Sitting in my S2 next to an aging luxo-barge will never again be a relaxed experience. (Especially as only yesterday I lost an argument with the wife as to why we NEED to upgrade to a turbo. Integrity of my driving licence played a major part in her argument I seem to remember.)

It's an odd car to drive as it doesn't all feel connected up. A mate and I spent a while under it the other day trying to find what was wrong with it, but couldn't find anything. Maybe they were like that from new!

I would think it would have similar performance to the S2 as its 3.0l 24v with LSD and the digital dash!!

Anyway thanks to anyone who has sponsored us and if you haven't what you waiting for? Hey if you do sponsor us and I see you out and about in your 944, I'll go easy on you with the Carlton.[:D]

I don't think it was that unconnected - I had already had a 911 by the time I bought it (and a R5GTT) so I knew what a good car felt like by then. I passionately hate Vauxhall, but they can do RWD when they try. It has a steering box though I seem to recall. I think it was 196bhp, don't know the torque or the weight, but I bet it was 944-comparable and quite a slippery shape. I know a mate who borrowed mine when I was abroad to tow his boat saw 165 on the speedo on the M5.

Never liked the digi-dash idea though; mine was analogue. In fact that's the off-putting thing with the ur-quattro for me.

Hmmm, but would it put you off owning one?

(I'm still saving for mine.)

I have't owned one yet, let's put it that way. I was almost tempted by the only RHD Treser cabrio conversion ever built that was for sale on eBay recently.

Fen,

RHD Treser Cabrio Conversion? We are talking about a UR-Quatt here, aren't we?

That sounds utterly, utterly awful. I'm slightly shocked that such a thing could ever exist. I would ask for pictures, but my morning is going badly enough as it is, and I don't want it to get any worse!

I know I am a very dull 'keep it original in looks at least' character, but a proper 20v Quatt should look exactly as it did when it left the factory. The only exception is the addition of rally decals and lights, and having 20 inches chopped out of it by Dialynx. Nothing else.

Oli.

I can't find pictures now as I didn't save any and the auction ended some time ago.

I always liked the Treser quattro in an utterly 80's sort of way and the open top is even more unique. It was red unfortunately.

Ohhh the Dialynx quattro, with a Dahlback Racing engine and clutch in it!! I think I might have to leave the room now! GOD I want one of those. Been thinking about it for years. The noise is just unbeatable!!

Only thing that stops me (apart from the obvious cost issue) is that comfort issue compared to the 944. Long journies (like to the Nurburg Ring) in the Quattro is hardly an appealing thought!
