Came across a scam on ebay last night someone selling a 1999 T reg Boxster for £10000 ebay No 4529645121
Emailed him just to see how come so cheap and to see how it is done, this is the reply I got back
( Ebay have taken said post off )

Hello there,
I´m glad to hear that you are interested about my car.
The price for it is £10,000 with the shipping taxes included.
We will use a third party to close this deal and only after you will receive the car i will receive the payment.
First you must make a deposit for 20% from the total amount (£2,000).
After you will finish the transfer you will mail the information to the shipping company:SR International Logistics and they will inform me that the transfer is ok.
As soon as i will have the confirmation from the shipping company i will send the car. After you will receive it and inspect it you will pay the rest of amount to the shipper and also send a second mail to SR International Logistics so they will send me the information regarding the transfer so i can get my money.
If from any reason you will not like the car you will send it back to me and at my expense.
I hope you agree and, in this case, you will not have to pay any additional taxes, just the price for the car.
The shipping will be made using SR International Logistics air freight insured for delivering and in this case 6 days later the car will be in front of your house.
Something else that i can say is that i decided to sell my car because i have o lot of problems: three months ago i left my country and i moved in Milano/ Italy at my daughter. She is very seek (has cancer) and is in divorce because her husbant said that he wont take care of her.
I discovered that her seekness can be cured with an cancer surrgery and that's why i decided to sell my car at this attractive and small price.
The car is in very good condition, never was involved in an accident or damaged, it looks just the way showed by my presentation.
The car will arrive with all the documentations required for registration and you will have no problem with that in your country.
If you are a serious person and you realy want to buy this car, all you have to do first is to send me your full name and address so i can go with the car at SR International Logistics and make a reservation for shipping.
Thanks and email me asap.

Has anyone come across any more

Sounds familiar -I queried a £10K 996 a while ago. Reply came from Italy, the car had been owned by her brother who was killed in a bike accident....the photos of the RHD UK reg car were obviously taken in London Docklands. Her profile revealed an ebay history in garments only....

Strange....

eBay scams are a close follow up to the famous Nigerian ones in terms of occupying (wasting) police time.

In fact a very good freind of ours just got taken for £800 for a Sony Vaio when the seller absconded with her cheque.

Incredible that people take so few precautions but easy to be lulled after a few good trades.

I've got one / same people / different venture:

Recently I was contacted by a boiler room operation being run by a group of Nigerians operating from Stockholm. Unknown to them, I actually work in investment banking and posses a good understanding of the financial markets. Anyway, I was offered a top NASDAQ stock [Midas Ent Inc] at 15% below FMV [fair market value] so decided to play along with the scam to waste their time and help deplete some of their ill-gotting gains. Although initially they could only reserve me 3,000 / $12K of this non existent stock, I easily managed to double my consideration to 6,0000 / $24K. Each time I was contacted by these con artists, they phoned my mobile so I tried to keep them on as long as possible. They even had the balls to courier [UPS] me a phony contract note from Sweden to UK. Despite making over $6K paper profit in just over a week, I missed the payment settlement date. Ooops"¦this resulted in a barrage of calls and more opportunity for me to waste to more of their time. They genuinely thought I was going to wire them $24K and it took them over 2 weeks to realise they had been had [;)] Naturally I reported them to the FSA at the outset and they have issued an alert against them.

I think ebay have a way of reporting these scammers - im sure theres a link on there somewhere as Ive done it a year or too back (reported that is not scammed!) it is worth it as they do look into it and block these guys from their system somehow (at least thats what they told me) they do take it seriously.

If you want to have some fun you can bait these guys and waste their time then drop out at the last minute - ask for lots of photos etc and get em to undertake all sorts of tie consuming tasks - specific photos of obscure bits for example. ALthough this wastes your time too it does give some satisfaction.

ebay provide a safe harbour for pond life and ultimately they only care about making fees. I recently purchased an item from a "genuine" seller and received a counterfeit product. Obviously I reported this to ebay and they couldn't give a toss. If I can be bothered, I'll get round to reporting the seller to his local trading standards and also to the manufacturer.

Anyway, check out http://www.419eater.com to see how really stupid these scammers are!
