Scarey mechanics.

I decided to play with the back brakes today, in particular the hand brake mechanism. Nothing really wrong but they did need a slight adjustment and thought it'd be a good time to see the internals for the first time.
Anyways, took wheel off, took pads out, removed caliper, next step is to remove the little countersunk nuts holding the disc onto the hub (you with me?), only to find there was none!!! So the only thing holding the wheel and hub on was the brake caliper!!!
It never fails to amaze me how incompitent some DIY mechanics can be, but this was downright scarey.

It's perfectly safe. The small philips head screws are only designed to hold the disk in place when the wheel is off. When the wheel is bolted on the disk is firmly clamped between the hub and the wheel. It's going nowhere.

Yup, i've just realised i'm an idiot. I apologise to everyone.
The disc sits between the hub and wheel, tighten the wheel up and disc is firmly in place. Got it.

My quote of " It never fails to amaze me how incompitant some DIY mechanics can be" Now seems to befit myself.

Don't you just love irony?

At least you didn't have the fun of trying to remove the little countersunk bolt - no doubt halved the time normally required to do the job. [;)]
