We have a sixty mile scenic drive planned for Saturday 24th May, starting from 9.00am at the Balloon Tree café in Gate Helmsley where we have been allocated seating in the conservatory area.

We head out, squeezing through Buttercrambe across the river Derwent, into the Howardian Hills, taking in many historic buildings, Kirkham Priory, Castle Howard and Sherriff Hutton to name a few.

There are two en-route comfort stops if required, at Yorkshire Lavender and Miss Daisy's Tea Rooms. The drive should take just over a hour and a half.

We will cross the Aldwark toll bridge (40p) over the river Ouse, passing former RAF Station Linton-on-Ouse, on the way to The Sidings hotel and restaurant in Shipton by Beningbrough, our final destination.

Our hosts will provide a traditional Greek buffet dinner to enjoy in this exceptional location close to the East coast mainline, where train drivers frequently acknowledge diners should the weather be kind enough to enjoy the garden.

The meal at The Sidings will include Greek salad, breads, meats and vegetarian options plus delightful, sweet specialities and yoghurt, the cost for the meal is £25 per person.
