Well having moved north and are now changing addresses and such like , it was time to change our address at Porsche Insurance ,
perfect No Charge , now my wifes car again No charge , but low and behold I decided to change my address on my Motorcycle , which has an annual cost of 187 GBP per year no Pound signs on a Russian keyboard. Well Blow me over with a feather Dear Mr Nicoll that will be 50 pounds please , a whopping 26.7% of the annual fee, just to change my address. Now I understand admin fee's but with a 9 yr max no claims bonus , I have been well and truly gubbed. I am not your usual mythical tight Jock, but they are having a laugh are they not.[8|]

I feel your pain being a fellow rider standard practise with bike insurance companies robbing ##ggers how come a bike with 1000cc prob does 40 mpg plus pays more road tax than equivalent car that's 10 time heavier?????

Jason , It beggars belief , when I told the woman that it was nearly a 30 % increase to my yearly insurance ,,her answer was we need to be Paid , wow
she got , my 9 years plus no claims has paid you suffienctly dear. wont be moving house again [;)]

You don't say if the £50 is an administration free or an increase in premium or both.

Obviously changing an address on an insurance policy does mean the insurer incurs costs. However, if the £50 is the administration fee, that looks unreasonable. As you've found many insures do the change without charge. If I had to put a number on "reasonable" it would probably be no more that £25.

I suggest you spend the cost of a phone call, ring and complain. Once you say you are making a "complaint" or may it clear you are complaining, their internal processes will have to kick in and they will have to deal with if formerly.

The regulator, the FCA (formerly the FSA) is quite clear with insures on the principles and outcomes they expect from insurers' complaint handling process.

I have written and made a formal complaint and see what they come up with. Yes it was only for changing my address , she asked for my new telephone number which we dont have yet, and she said let us know. I said there is no way I am going to speand another 50 quid to tell you my new phone number,
as you say 25 quid is a reasonable charge.

I have just notified AON of a change of car and was charged £25 to process the paperwork no increase in premium, changed from Turbo S to GT3RS

Are you sure it's just an admin fee and that you haven't moved to a higher risk postcode on the bike insurance? You did say you have moved north..........[;)]

No def an admin fee , as the Porsche was 150 quid a year cheeper in Blairgowrie than Ashford in Kent, also my wifes car was cheaper and it was certainly admin , I have actually found it in their website in the Micro print. Well by the time I move again I wont need to insure my Zimmer so no more complaints I guess, and no more extortionate Admin fee's.

Dangerous for me to pick at the detail as I'm no lawyer or insurance compliance officer. Maybe insures aren't obliged to state their fees as part of the policy information, but if they are I would hope the information had also been provided at the outset in a "durable medium".

Websites seem to be specifically excluded in the FCA definition of a durable medium, unless this criteria is met: -

"any instrument which enables the recipient to store information addressed personally to him in a way accessible for future reference for a period of time adequate for the purposes of the information and which allows the unchanged reproduction of the information stored"
