Scottish Tour 2012

R31 is considering organising a Scottish Tour next year, possibly in May or June. It will be based at an absolutely superb Inn on the West Coast just north of Skye. We will probably spend about 4 days at this hotel, but a longer stay would be available. As well as the usual motoring entertainment, on offer is whale and dolphin cruises, horse riding, pony trekking, sea fishing, mountain climbing, distillery visits, fine dining, sub-tropical gardens, the highest pass in the UK, breathtaking scenery, wild life and much much more.

The Tour will primarily be for R31 members, but of course will be open to the whole Club. Numbers will be kept to about 30. It might be a long way to go for members in the south, but it will be certainly well worth it just for the empty roads and spectacular scenery. I have recently stayed at this hotel and believe me, it is fabulous and cheap! It's worth going just for the food alone!

To gauge if this tour is worth organising can I ask anyone who is vaguely interested to drop a line to me, Derek Sharp at djs5@btinternet.com. No commitment is necessary, just your indication that you might possibly be interested.

Hi Derek

This sounds interesting and whilst I understand there is no commitment at this stage, I think we need to have an idea of cost.

Fair comment.

Of course I have no idea what the exact cost will be in one year's time, but to give you an idea, B&B at the hotel is £97 per night for a superior room (cheaper if you book more than one night). Very reasonable, I think you will agree. Breakfast is full Scottish, cooked to order (not a luke warm buffet). Obviously, when I know numbers, the price will be fixed before we book.

Evening meals are a la carte and did not exceed £15 per head. Considering the quality; lobster, pan seared Scallops, wild venison, Aberdeen Angus steak, I thought it fantastic value. All rooms are good size, have en-suite, TV, tea making & WiFi. The hotel is quiet, enjoys a picturesque harbour location, very safe parking etc. Fancy their microbrewery or the golf course within walking distance?

Excursions as required, but still ridiculously cheap. For example, half day cruises watching whales or dolphins for about £30 for half a day. Same for pony trekking with experienced guides.

Driving your lovely Porsches on empty roads in magnificent scenery ... free!

Will do, so far have 6 couples interested. Need much more to make it worthwhile organising. Assuming only half those interested actually go, I need at least 20 couples to express an interest.

Still, very early days, but will need to secure the hotel rooms by at least Sep/Oct

Hi Guys,

Sorry, I have not had sufficient potential interest to make this trip viable. I note that a similiar trip is being organised commercially & advertised in Porsche Post. Have a look. If you would like any information for a solo trip do please contact me.

if you need somewhere to visit on your way home. then i can highly recommend the National Museum of flight www.nms.ac.uk/flight

i was thinking of organising a 997 trip..staying at New Lanark Mill Hotel= http://www.newlanark.org/

Hi there - new to forum, but Cirencester based so R31 I guess?
Is this trip happening and if so what dates are we looking at? Sounds fun and like the idea of open roads in the Highlands; am interested for a 4-day event.

Looong way to go for just 4 days!!
I've just turned down joining a trip that were doing the region for a long weekend.
I was looking at it taking longer to get there than actually spending there!!

My plans are for an Autumn trip...
