Scratches and swirls

Unfortunately, my 993's previous owner did not treat the bodywork on the car with the love and attention it deserved. I have been advised that the best way to get this sorted is to find a restoration expert and have the paintwork "mopped". I live in North London. Any suggestions folks?

Thanks

Ellis

Hi Ellis,

I have the same problem you can do it yourself but it takes alot of time if you do a search on the forum there is loads of help and information, my only advice would be to make sure you go to a decent bodyshop. I have not touched mine yet waiting for the salt etc on the roads to clear

Some of the specialist Zymol body specialists claim to be able to do this and I've seen testimony on Pistonheads supporting this especially Paul at Miracle detail a copy of something from pistonheads

Hi All,

Everyone's up early on a sunday!

To all the people who are having problems with there paintwork, please contact me and I will pop round and give you a demonstration free of charge!

Once you have had your paintwork re-levelled by 1 or 2 microns, you will have a perfect finish like this in direct sunlight www.miracledetail.co.uk/auto-detailing-car-new.html?carID=95&imageID=1135

or if you need to get the car 'mopped' to remove the swirl and can do it yourself a lot of people reccommend a product such as 3M:

OK I am going to have to ask the dumbo question. What is 'mopping' when used in the context of paintwork?

Ian.

OK but what does 'mopping' do to the paint. Is is abrasive? Or do you use something that 'fills' the swirls?

And if you are not careful and use something like Tcut you can be through the clearcoat and paint in no time at all[:D]

Think I need some help on this one as my previous owner has neglected the paintwork too. I have tried Zymol, but this has had little effect. Anyone got any other suggestions either DIY or professional in the North, York area?
