Screeching aircon!!!!!.............

As the title says, my fresh air/aircon fan(s) screech horribly after about 5 mins use. I think the fan motor probably just needs a dose of WD40.

Can someone tell me where the fan is and how many there are? I've seen a fan unit behind the pinterior panel on the RHS drivers footwell, is that it?

Greetings
Has your car got aircon? In my '85 car the air con is totally seperate to the heating system. Basically there's a fan above the engine which does the main pushing, then you have two footwell blower fans which help push the air, hot or cold, up to the cabin area. You then have an additional fan which sits at the base of the windscreen. That one does fresh air mix only, not aircon. I had that problem with noisey bearings. unfortunately a replacement unit was the only answer. Pretty easy to replace, just a bit of grovelling at the back of the dash from under the bonnet. If the noise only happens when you move the top lever of the heating system to the right then I guess thats your problem. If you want a run down on replacing the defective item please e-mail me with your phone number and I'll see if I can help over the blower.
Good luck
Alex

Good Afternoon Signor,

Thanks for your feedback.

Yep my car has aircon, it's a '86 model but sounds like it's a different system to yours!
I dont have a fan under the engine cover, just a matrix that I think must be the condenser unit.
Also my heater fans operate completely separately to the air con, ie. the heater fans do the footwell and screen vents and the fan(s) that are screeching do the fresh air which is cooled if the air con is switched on.

Cheers,
Martin.

There is a hot air fan in the engine compartment. It is high up and near the back window. It connects to ducting which comes near the distributor cap & rotor. This is for heating. It pushes air into the heat exchangers.

Thanks for that Nathan but.........................do you know where the fresh air fan is :)

IF the fresh air fan is in the same place as the NON A/C car then it is behind the dash / under front bonnet where it is accessed from.

Easy, if a bit fiddly to get out (Bentley manual has good instructions). Mine did the same thing - easy to take apart when removed (spring clips) and remove the motor cap and oil the end of the shaft. MIND THE BRUSHES / HOUSINGS - only sprung in place ! The other end where the fan is on the shaft has a hole drip a little oil in there as well.

Fixed mine last week, and I did the 500 miles to Le mans and back this weekend with it on the whole time, and no problem.

Good luck. David

Yep, should be in the same place, aircon or not. My 930 had aircon when he was born but is another one of the many mods for lightweight...
