Screeching brakes

Hi!

A quick question from a new owner and first time Porche DIYer.

I replaced my front brake disks and brake pads two weeks ago and had absolutelly no trouble for about a week. Lately, the front right brake screeches terribly when slightly pressed and then stops screenching when pressed more heavily. After about 20 minutes of driving the screeching stops...

A quick look at the brakes shows brand new pads and nothing visibly wrong.

Do you think this is something I should be worried about, look into or relatively normal?

Many many thanks,
Alex

what car an year etc?
I knw the monoblock calipers are prone to screeching when the stainless plates lift due to corrosion.

did you fit the anti sqeal shims form Porsche when you fitted the pads.....?

I think it's just a common prolem with asbestos-free lining materials. Try using them hard a few times to break any glaze that may be forming and see if that improves it.

Try some 'Copper Slip' between the backplates and the pistons, (don't get it anywhere near the pad friction face or disc) this can sometimes work with light pressure brake squeal.

My recently replaced brakes (pads and discs) squeal quite a bit, even though the 'anti-squeal' shims have since been fitted. I've been advised to take the pads off, use some sandpaper/emery cloth to roughen the surface to remove the glaze. The question I have is what causes the glazing in the first place? Is it too harsh use of the breaks during the 'bedding in' period, or too gentle?
Cheers,

Graham

Too gentle. Just using them hard periodically should brek the glaze. It will just come back if you sand them and drive the same again.
