Screeching Noise Diagnosis Help!!

Hi everyone,

I was driving yesterday at about 30mph approaching a bend. Applied the brakes and when I accelerated out i heard a loud screeching/scrapping noise from the car.

I slowed down and the noise seemed to go away. I then heard it again as i approached my destination a few hundred yards away from where it began.

I parked up and left the car for an hour.

There were no lights on the dashboard and oil and temp was fine.

I started the car again and drove carefully home. Not a sound. I have parked the car up now at home but am dreading starting her up again in case the noise comes back.

To top it off, when I came home I could hear a hissing sound from the rear which turned out to be a nail in the tyre. GREAT!!! That the second one in two months.

Any idea what the problem could be and more importantly whats the fix?

Hi Richard,

The belt was changed last year in May when I got the car.

An update - just started the car and there is no noise even when pressing the accelerater.

I have noticed some light white smoke coming out the back. Could be just the weather, but will get Jaz to look at that.

Still no lights!!!

Right,

Got up early and went to get nail in tyre sorted out.

Car started up and guess what no noise. Drove down to Jaz and showed smoke to one of the team. They unscrewed the oil cap and told me that its not the separator as if it was there would be a strong vacuum and cap would have been difficult to unscrew.

The diagnostic showed no errors, so we have put it down to the fact that I may have driven over something that got caught up in the brakes and has since dislodged itself.

The smoke seems to have gone and this could have been tot he weather, but I have been told to monitor oil and water levels and smoke. if it comes back i will need to take it back.

Pleased that there is nothing wrong, but thats not to say that it may not come back.

Will see how it goes, but that noise was scary!!!

Thanks for the advice Richard!
