Screenwash - solved...

Appreciate that this is not the world's most interesting subject, but have spoken to my OPC about what to do for frreeze protection. They have spoken to Porsche, and the OPC's response is:

"I have asked this very question of Porsche and they have responded thus:

In the owners handbook for winter filling use Water + an anti freezing agent + Screen wash mixed to the ratios stipulated on the container

They did also suggest using a third party screen-wash with antifreeze agent already in, which puts to rest my earlier argument regarding warranty."

I have tracked down the optimum solution: buy Quantum (VW-Audi) "-20degC standard screen wash concentrate" TRADE from your local branch of TPS (www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk ) - it is about £12 for 4 x 5litres, although you can buy 5 litre individually for about £2.70 + VAT. This beats the £3.60 per litre from either VW or Audi. Also vastly cheaper than eBay.

Methanol based, no nasties in it.

i had this problem two years ago when my headlight washer froze up due to the cold weather ,the washer unit started leaking (cost me £42 to replace), since then i use halfords winter screen wash in every winter and use the porsche screen wash in the summer i always flush the washer system out with water before i switch from one to another to avoid mixing different products

Yes this was my fear now we are finally seeing temps to justify my huge expense on winter tyres - never thought I'd be so glad to see a frost...

The Quantum one will mix with the Porsche 'cleaner' without any risk of problems. There are certainly some out there that will not mix well, although a common problem is using far too much of the 'cleaner' types which have a slightly 'soapy' quality when concentrated.

Sorry to resurrect this one, but I was about to buy the Quantum -20 stuff when I noticed that it specifically states that it should NOT be used for fan-type jets (my 997 has these), and that VW Group Original Screenwash.
If bought from VW/Audi this is referred to as -70, is specifically formulated for fan-jets and is available in 500ml (£3) or 1000ml (£4-5).

Is anyone using this and if so does it mix with the Porsche summer stuff?

I'd love to hear what it is about the -20 stuff that isn't 'compatible' with fan jets...

Mix it at your Peril[]

It cost me a new washer motor and having to have tank flushed on my 993 after making 'Shandy' screen wash
with the Porsche Product and other High Street brands.[:-]

Ensure that your Tank is completely clear of the Porsche Product before pouring in you choice!

Ah, mixing perhaps, although having looked at the MSDS of the two products, there ought not to be a problem!
