Scuttle

Has anybody got any idea on the price of replacing or repairing the scuttle. Have noticed some minute blisters in the paint. Not sure if it's contamination in the paint (evidence of this area being painted in the past) or something more sinister or complete old car paranoia[&:]

this is a classic area to fail. There is a panel available for the section from where the wing joins to about 8 inches along the windscreen. I had blisters at the bottom corner of the windscreen so I removed the windscreen (you need a new seal) and found that the panel was rotted through. I cleaned out the rust and repaired with fiberglass this lasted for about 2 years and when I had new front wings fitted had the scuttle repaired pproplery as I was quoted 300-600 pounds for the scuttle repair by its self depending on what thet found. As a guide I had blisters next to the targa bar and on the front wings for years and when the body was refurbished there was only light rust under the paint. Your car looked great at the Total911 shoot so I would'nt worry about a few blisters.

Thanks for that. The blisters are very small almost like dirt in the paint so i'm hoping that is what it is. Its in the middle of the scuttle and not near any seams so will just keep an eye on it.

Must say your car looked mega and very clean especially as an everyday car.

It does'nt always look like that! When I had the body restored I looked into the various methods of painting. Originally the car was painted in a single pack paint whilst this allows the oxidisation to be t-cut away it never looks as bright as the modern method of paint and lacquer (this method also repairs easily) so I had Top Gun respray the car with a two pack paint. We bought the car in 2000 with 93k on the clock and it now has 128k (this includes 18 months while I lived in the US). SO it does show how practical the cars can be.
I was really glad to hear that you thought your car was runing better after a good thrashing at Bruntingthorpe. I spoke to Pete (Bones) about asking if you would like to write a small article for the register section in Porsche Post about your first "track day" in your SC, we are always looking for materail, so how about it and perhaps a picture?

Yeah would love to. Let me know what i need to do and when for. I will keep an eye on the scuttle, but the guys at the bodyshop where i work are going to have a look, but i think it may just be a poor paint finish.

Hi,
if you have a look at your last copy of PP in the reg section just copy what others have done, then e-mail to Pete (Bones) and he get it in the next edition. many thanks Mark
