Seat adjustment

Hi members,

I'm a newbie, so forgive me if this has been covered before. I've done a search and not found what I'm after.

My problem is that my newly acquired C2 2001 has problems with the seats. It's perfect for me but one day someone else may want to drive it. It has electric height and backrest adjustment. Backwards and forwards adjustment is manual. The height lever doesn't seem to do anything on either seat. The backrest adjustments work perfectly. The passenger side backwards & forwards movement is fine. The driver's seat forwards & backwards adjustment is stiff and will only travel a limited distance relative to the passenger seat's travel. It feels like it's got a kink in it and will not travel past the kink. How do you remove the seat so that I can inspect the seat rail?

its easy i am nota mechanic and did it myself pm me your email and i will send you a pdf on how to do so

Welcome Keith!!

Are you SURE it has electric height and backrest tilt, but mechanical fore-aft? Seats are usually either full electric, or electrical backrest tilt only.

Thanks for the welcome Richard. That might explain why both seats have no height adjustment. So the plastic lever that looks like seat height is not connected to anything?

It should be, but you have to pull it and jiggle in the seat to get it to move. It has a counterbalance spring which you have to overcome.

Am I correct in writing:

There are no electric motors associated with the height adjustment. Releasing the plastic lever locks the height if the spring / counter balance system manages to raise the seat.

Yes, you are correct. If you aren't in the seat, and the seat is in a low position, it will come up with a bang when you pull the lever.

Also note that the up/down lever takes quite a pull to activate. It sounds strange to me that both seats have the same defect.

I have not got my car at work to try now but I think the lever moves a couple of centimetres when activated.

Thank you for all your help. I gave the seat base a little prod from behind while lifting the lever and it sprang up. Now both seats have height adjustment. And to top it all, the fore-aft works. It must be catching something on its lowest positon. No need to take the seat out. Result.
