Seat back slipping, any advice?

Hi,

my 1980 SC has original (fitted as an option I believe) racing seats with bolsters. The seat back slips a click every now and then and it's become totally maddening! On a 3 hour journey it'll probably go 4-6 times. I'm not talking about it slipping on the runners, just the seat back. Has anyone got any knowledge of this or tips and advice. I'd like to get it repaired soon but any additional advice might be handy...

cheers
Alex

By racing seats I understand you to mean the heavy stock factory 'sports' seat with the side supports, racing seats in disguise. I once fixed the rear tilt mechanism on my SC after taking the seat out and resoldering a detached cable nipple on the mechanism, there are no diagrams for a seat repair so I'm afraid my advice is to inspect the mechanism and figure it out for yourself. Failing that contact Dave Nunn at Southbound Trimmers and ask him for advice.

Hi Bones, I've weighed the same (non electric) seats in my car at 17kg each, compared with a recaro pole position at 12kg each with all the mountings, the sport seats are not that heavy

Can't agree with you there Bruce as current 'Race buckets' weigh in at 5kilos a piece, When I was last wheeling a factory 'sports' seat around in my lap it felt damn heavy. There is a lot of weight to be lost from the interior of an SC by removing rear seats, sound deadening, carpets and replacing the front front seats with some super lightweight items. Amyway we're ruining the original thread here!
