Seat belt alarm

Is there any easy way to disable (the slightly sanctimonious) seat belt alarm, or at least set the limiter to chime in at a higher speed?

Get another buckle part of the belt and keep it in the slot [;)]

why would you want to? Having seen the results of an RTA when airbag went off and driver had no seatbelt I can assure you its not something you want to do...

Henry doesn't want it entirely off (as far as I read) but only to wear his seat belt when the car is doing slightly more mph then the current set limit for the alarm which I think is close to 5mph(?).

yeah, i agree. setting the mph to say 10/15 would be better. it means you don;t need your belt on to keep the bepeing away when driving around in a car park looking for a space, or moving the car from the drive into the garage etc.

anyone know how to do it?

Agree. I take mine off for maoevering, which would make the exercise much more challenging if i had park sensors... bleeps going off all over the place ! []

Yep, you've got it! I have a habbit of disengaging the seatbelt as I'm rolling to a stop going up my drive and occassionaly whilst driving round the carpark. No intention of hammering down the motorway at 70mph with no seatbelt. But more to the point, its just a bit too nannying of Porsche to tell me what's good for me. I can still take a few decisions myself, honest !!!

I agree that off when the car is slower than 5mph would be great; but this is not possible. The seat belt alarm can be set to on at all times or off at all times.

It is a simple reprog, but has to be done at an OPC (and not all will do this for you, even if you offer to sign a legal waiver).

Thanks for the info

its not a seat belt alarm, its to tell you that the stero isnt turned up loud enough. simply outstretch your left arm & turn the volumn button up..:)

The tongue of the seat belt activates a switch in the buckle which is not just on/off. They need to be able to tell the difference between short-circuit and open circuit wiring, sealt belt in and out so the switch actually changes the resistance of the loop. Disconnect the connector and (at least in an old 996 C4S), the electronics will recognise an open circuit and you get a warning message.

In a previous C4S, I sorted mine out by wiring a resistor across the disconnected connector so that it always appeared to the electronics that the seat belt was in use. Seem to remember I used a 560 ohm resistor but YMMV.

It is an all-or-nothing choice because the speed sensitive element will be implemented in software, probably by the same area that gives you the option of locking the doors when you start off.

I daresay that such a modification voids the car's type approval or some other nonsense...
