Seat Rattle

strickers

[FONT=arial"]Hi Folks

I have a bad rattle that I think is coming from the back rest of the passenger seats. Any hints of what I can try to tighten up?

I had a rattle on the seat frame of my C2 which sounded like the back rest, but was the rear pivot point of the height adjuster. There is a nylon bush which had worn through, giving metal-to-metal contact between the pin and the pivot arm. Item 2 on the attached. It was a bit of a pain to remove the seat and strip it down, and there are some 'special' tools required - an E12 Torx star socket for the seat bolts, and a spline drive bit for the pivot pins, but it wasn't too bad once the seat was out.

Do you have any sort of sound deadening fabric wrapped around the receivers for the backrest mechanism? I'm not sure whether this is standard on 996's but mine has a sort of felt-type fabric wrapped around the metal post that sticks out of the inner rear wing that the backrest mech clips in to. I'm not sure that this is where your rattle is coming from but to eliminate it you could try driving the car with the rear backrests lowered to see if still makes the noise. You could also try to engage the seat belts - as though someone is sitting in the back seats - to see if it is seat belt related.

Hope this helps. Nothing worse than rattles!

Adrian.

Thank Richard, I did mean the passenger seat.I'll have to watch my plurals in future, sorry for the confusion Adrian.
