Seat rattles

Small problem, large irritation [].

The seats in my car rattle if not sat in. The problem seems to be that there is some play in the mechanism which secures the back of the seats in the upright position, allowing the back to rock back and forth very slightly. While doing so it knocks aginst whatever the 'stop' is in the mechanism causing the noise.

I removed the plastic covers at the base of the rear of the seatback at the weekend in the hope of troubleshooting, but any further dismantling looked as if it would be a biggish job, and involve some upholstery skills, which I don't have.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Open the passenger door window as well and drive in a lower gear (or faster)....if that fails, open the roof too. As a last resort, turn on the radio.

No other replies so you probably did......

Seriously though, I know what you mean. Under some conditions my whole dash rattles and it drives me absolutely crazy. As does the rattle from the drivers door.

I was tempted to suggest filling a blow up doll with water instead of air and carrying "it" as a passenger but decided not to.
None of my seats, dashboard, etc rattle at all but without having looked closely you normally find a peg around which a locking hook engages to hold the seatback in position.Just wind a good quality insulation tape round enough times to take up the slack.

I don't know what you're complaining about!! See Nick Epps' posts on the 997 Forum.

BTW, check for loose coins in the runners.....
