Seat Re-Upholstery

Hello all,

After trawling through the 356 Registry forum I noticed an article relating to the re-upholstering of 356 seats. Now I know that it has to be done right, but it seems to me that we only have one reasonable company in the southeast of England that can carry out the work to a reasonable standard. I believe that a number of us actually send out seats to Autos International in the USA to carry out the work!

The attached URL goes straight to the article which contains scanned images of a 356 Registry article which goes in to a very good level of detail. I believe that the gentleman who posted the article on the forum used Autos International seat pads and covers to complete the work.

Let me know what you think..

Kind Regards

England that can carry out the work

Hi - I guess it would not be a bad idea to get down (or up to) Hedingham to take a look at some of the cars in the
show (Classic at the Castle) on Sunday 8th Jun 08. No only will you see some fine cars but most of these cars
will have had the interiors done or part done during the lifetime of the car. Take a look round at the workmanship
on show - then make a decision. I will be in attendace my car and this has been done in the last ten years to what
I would think is a high standard by a chap who live close to Newmarket.
Look me up at the show regisration PEF356 - only to glad to help and advise if I can.

Rgards - John

P.S. I believe this event was the largest collection of early Porsche cars in Europe last year so plenty to look at plus
Southbound and other trades were in attendance.
P.P.S See Porsche Post for details of event.

Hi John,

I've already got my tickets so see ya there.

My car isn't in the best condition but will be going in for restoration at Sportwagen the next day!

Regards

Steve

Sportwagen the next day

Well its certainly off to the right place for the body work - I have some info and experience on where to get materials etc
so look forward to seeing you at the show!

There are Many Goood Upholsterers in this country - but the problem lies in finding one that knows how to trim a car - `The Way that Porsche did it `

A lot of the detail is already lost, particularly with regard to the construction of the Folding Tops
In addition materials and stuffings have changed - it is always a compromise

The simplest way is to buy a Trim Kit or Carpet Kit from one of the Good US Suppliers and then have it installed in the UK
The kits are very reasonably priced, good quality and readily available

With that said, we have sent Speedster Seats to Autos International on 2 x occasions and they do do an excellent job but of course the transport and Mr. Brown`s Tax Collection Agency does rack up the cost
