Seat Retrim (Front and Rear) - Advice Rqd!

I have an '89 944 Turbo with electric cloth seats that have seen (much!) better days. I've phoned around looking getting retrim prices, but in comparison to the value of the car the costs are way too high.

I'm having trouble finding any seats at all (never mind in decent condition) from the breakers, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of the replacement seat covers I've seen being advertised? Do they fit well, how do they look/wear, are they easy to install, and recommendations if you have any.

Alternatively, has anyone got a full set of seats, front and rear, in Beige/Light Grey/Black they want to sell!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers/John

What sort of prices have you been quoted?

I was offered a full leather retrim for my car for £600, which I think is pretty reasonable. I saw an example of the work, and it was very well done with good quality leather.

James,

For retrimming the front and rear, I'm being quoted a minimum of £1,400 pounds (+ all the usual)! Who are you talking to about your retrim?

Cheers/John

That does sound like rather a lot.

I was given the quote by EMC in Birmingham (the people who put my engine in for me). They're pretty good. If you don't live locally, what they can do is send a set of seats off to be trimmed up. Then you just call in and they swap it al over for you in a day. Their number is 0121 328 2225. Kevin is the man that you want to talk to.

Les,

I spoke to Southbound (after a recommendation from my garage) - the people there were inceredibly friendly and knowledgeable, I'm just not convinced there's enough value in the car to warrant the sort of money they're looking at to do the job. Not with a new MAF and water pump also required... Oh well, 6 years of worry free motoring must have a price eventually...

how much do they charge for door cards and new carpets. there is a person selling carpet sets on ebay for £200 and seem very good quality.

Whereabouts are you John?

Try the breakers, porschapart, etc.
I've just got an unmarked seat for my 924s off ebay .

Cheers,

Fred,

I'm based in Surrey. I've tried a few of the breakers, including Porsch-Apart, but no one seems to have any decent full sets of seats. I think they must go pretty quickly!

I may try posting a request for seats on here and the 911 board (they're the same seat) and see if anyone has a set for sale.

Cheers/John

I can get these cheap if you are interested.

Hi, I've got an '87 924s Le Mans & Southbound quoted me around £1400 as well, although they will sell me the material unique to Le Mans'es (?) for £60 a metre.
Until I can afford that, as an interim measure I've just managed to get some near A1 condition black & white pascha seats off ebay for £112. I think they went cheap because they had to be picked up from Aberdeen, but I live in Edinburgh so it was only a 250 mile round trip. Will be trying to fit them Sunday, they're off an '81 Turbo. Do you think they'll fit ? It took me six months of waiting to get a set but they are on Ebay quite regularly.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I think I'll look around a bit more and see if I can source a set of seats. I fancied a change anyway! If any of you come across a decent interior (preferably leather) let me know.

Thats them Mike & they look amazing, how do i go about getting mine done please?

Remove material from seats (make a note of the order you remove the clips, I used photos).
It took me half a day, add one hour if you have electric seats ( I have done both )

Give your seat covers and new material to your local sewing machinist, they will unpick your old material and use as a template to replace with new. (quote - sewin is easy but you can fit the bloody things your self )

Refit new covers. I use zip ties instead of the metal clips, they will not last as long but you can control the tension on the material. The first seat I did was on my lux over a year ago and it is fine, it would not take long to replace the zip ties if they failed.
