as my rear one is broken :(
these aren't my seats by the way.

James,

Those are the 4-way switches, which are a lot less common than the 2-way ones.

In answer to your question, I don't know. Try a breakers - Alasdair (on here) may be able to help.

Alternatively, what's wrong with it? They are very simple switches and there's not a lot in them to go wrong. Can you dismantle it and work out what has failed, and possibly repair it?

Oli.

Elliot might well be able to help as well, these aren't 944-specific so any of the breakers in the faqs are likely to have one.

I also have a problem with a 4 way seat switch which seemed wobbly (technical term) compared to the others. However, it worked so didn't worry about it.

Last summer there were three in the car so my wife was in the back behind the passenger seat. Suddenly she shouted that the seat back was moving down and crushing her making it difficult to breathe. I stopped as quickly as I could ( much to the annoyance of other drivers) and pushed the switch forward to get the seat up again. She says she will never go in the back again and calls the car "the crusher"!

I have dismantled the switch and put cardboard between the contacts to stop it moving. I suspect that the springs have lost their springiness allowing the ball bearings to come adrift and the contacts to meet even though the switch is not being pressed. Just got to find the right springs as replacements.

There is obviously no cut out or clutch mechanism to stop the seat backs pushing down against a resistance so if you have any doubts about your 4 way switches it might be an idea to disable them, especially if you carry children in the back.

ive been a biff, mine are two way not the same as this, the rear most one has snapped at the tiny join to the bit inside. :(

they look like the switches I had on my 928 I think ? might be worth posting on the 928 board.

i have some seats that have been sitting in the workshop for a while and not selling so i will be stripping the seat bases and electrics and flogging the seats to some old rat VW boy so the motors and switches will soon be available - Will need to wait for me to strip them though.

Contact me and i will put you on a first come first served basis

cheers
