Seatback question for you...

Can you tell me if the seat backs on the 944 can be swapped over from driver to passenger side etc?
They look identical.
If so is it simply a case of undoing the two bolts and circlip for the lever on each side of the seat and lifting the back out?
I have the seats out to give the carpets a good clean so thought I might take the opportunity to swap them over to equalise wear on the side bolsters.
Thanks

I didn't realise it hadn't been mentioned for a while. Both my ex-S2 cab and now my 964 have had the swap.

As will mine, in about 30 minutes time, when I have found those s0dd1ng b45t4rd fuc41ng circlips that have decided to jump all over my workshop and disappear into thin air ... whose great idea was this anyway?!?!

The only down side is that the lever for releasing the seat back so it can tilt forward will end up on the inside on both seats - not too much of a problem I suppose if you don't use the back seats much!

So are you driving around in a car with no seatbacks today or did you find the clips? I think I lost one for about 2 weeks when I did mine, then it turned up.

Thanks for asking ... I pinched some off a spare thingummie I had kicking around in the basement. I *think* it was part of a central heating system once. Whetever, it yielded the right number of clips of the right size ...

Also discovered that the seats are heavy when you come to putting the back in the car, while trying not to chip the sill (or should that be cill?) paintwork. And my back was never the strongest ....

Must stop grumbling!

I am assuming that the CS versions from the 968 are lighter. And aren't racing seats around 5-8kg each? That's nearly a 40kg weight saving with almost no effort at all. (And I find the stock 944 seats pretty uncomfortable at the best of times - Fen, I think we have had a mutual grumble about this before.)

Oli.

Indeed. I believe the 968 CS seats are about 15kg each and they don''t hold you all that well as they are designed to accommodate corpulent German businessmen who were the ones who bought the cars new. I think my Corbeaus are about 7kg each by contrast.

Whereas older 944's and 968's are now owned by corpulent British businessmen, like me ... perhaps I ought to go shopping for some CS seats then!

Oli.

As you may recall I'm pretty corpulent myself, but I still rattle around in the CS seats. I had to get the XL size in my Corbeaus though.
