Seatbelt mountings in an S2

I want to fit a pair of bucket seats in my project car but noticed that the seatbelt buckles are attached to the existing seats ( in my old lux they were attached to the transmission tunnel. I checked the tunnel on my S2 & there are no mounting threads. Has anyone attempted to fit buckets & keep the 3 point belts, if so how did you do it.Any ideas?
Also my red S2 is up for sale, it's not advertised yet but I thought I'd mention it here first. I couldn't sell the family car so it's got to go

I haveb't done it, but I seem to recall from previous posts that you need a plate to attach to the mountings of the new seats which allows you to mount the seatbelts.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

BTW, if you are selling your S2, would you sell the Promax chip seperately?

Thanks ... and all the best with the seatbelt mountings on your project car. Someone who knows more will be along to help any minute now ... I'm sure.

I had JZ Machtech (who I was using at the time) make up some brackets that mounted the latch to the side mounts. It worked a treat, although it's recommended that you fit the side mounts to the car with 6 bolts per seat (nstead of 4) to cope with the additional load in case of an accident.

I would take a picture of the bracket, but my car's away at the moment, however if it'll help it should be back in a few days.

Thanks Peter,

I may have solved it!

Still undecided as to what seats to fit, apparently recaro pole positions have something called ABE which has seatbelt receiver mountings??? Quite expensive though

That looks a great solution.
Re the seat, I'm still very happy with my Cobra Imola, very comfortable for me and light/affordable too.

looks an interesting solution...

If you attach the buckle to the seat, then Peter's absolutely right - use 2 bolts either side at the rear (this is how the standard seat bolts in on later cars)

Thanks for the advice chaps.

By the way Peter your website is great,a real source of inspiration.
I'm sure I'll be using S.A.R at some point as they're only 10 mins from my house!

if you have alook on the K300 website they sell a recaro fitting side mount that is prepped for the standard seat belt mounting a-la 968CS

Thanks Darren [:)]
I'm sure Alan and Simon will welcome you, there's almost always something intersting to have a nose at.

You've reminded me, I must speak to them soon about getting a few more bits done to my car over the winter [:D]

May be an obvious comment, but if the Recaros (or any other bucket seat) are not fitted via a mount that uses the existing seat fixing/runners on the floor pan, designed (we presume) to resist the dynamic load from both you and the seat in an accident, then if the seat belts are fixed to the seat it should be anchored in an equivalent manner?

Otherwise, in a full frontal it'll be you AND the seat going through the screen, happily belted together?!

Don't most replacement seats have adaptor mounts to fit to existing rails?

I see your point Graham, however, if I get the side mounts from K300 as suggested by Lali then I'll be doing the same as Porsche did on the 968 CS. Won't I ?

Thanks for all your help Guys.

Any thoughts on the spider seats that design 911 have on their site? I quite fancy the alacantra but it's a question of will they fit the K300 sidemounts...

This thread may be of some assistance.

If you buy seats with steel mounts you can drill them for mounting bolts. Steel mounts are cheaper, not that much heavier and, with a 944, you could cut off a fair amount which is unused if you were that bothered. The weight is so low, and near the middle of the car, anyway as to have little dynamic impact.

You have to read to the end of the thread but the interesting (?) bit could be:-

Thanks John, that's very interesting.
I did a forum search but didn't see that thread.I mustn't have looked hard enough!
