Seating Position. Comfort seats

One thing i've been struggling with since i've had my 997 is finding the right seating position to get comfortable. I'm 5'10" and broad so i always found the back rest narrow, but in my 996 it didn't take long to get it right. (albeit they were the fully electric memory seats with lumbar)
My main issue is there is a rather irritating hard bar in the back rest where i assume the seat pivots for access to the back. I also can't seem get the right adjustment height or rake either. I knew the seats would be a compromise after the last ones, but i'd be interested to know how others have adjusted theirs.
Also i have spotted a set of full electric ones on fleabay and whether these can be retro fitted?

Can't help with those seats Ben but don't forget the steering wheel goes up and down and in and out to help get the correct seating position.

I'm 5' 10" and very broad too,

When I have driven other 911's, I quite often find the seat is a little too high. So maybe give this a try.....nothing to lose.

So if you haven't already drop the seat as low as it will go. Right to the bottom.
Adjust the seat squab back and forth to suit the position for your feet to the pedal box (I am 31" Inside Leg - beginning to sound like a scene from 'Are you being served!')
Then adjust the seat backrest rake and steering wheel, so that the wrists (with straight arms) hit the top of the wheel. (adjusting the rake to get the wrist to the wheel, will give a very upright position, and may require readjustment of the seat (maybe notch) as it has the effect of moving the hips nearer to the pedal box. Some final fettling adjustments will no doubt be required.

....but ultimately all down to personal choice, but something to try. Good Luck

Oddly I've been playing around and I think I may have hit the issue. I was sat too low. As I only have the basic seats the front of the squab doesn't adjust and as such doesn't come up to the back of my thigh. I only found out after my wife drove and pumped the seat up 6 notches. I got in and it was more supportive. This is the opposite of my usual spot but I'm getting there

Im 6'2 and not the slimmest of chaps, in nearly every other car I've owned I found the seat needed to be as low and as far back as I could get it. In my 997 however I find it almost the opposite, I find the seat being higher a much more comfortable position, granted I have the adaptive sports seats so there's possibly a greater amount of adjustment. The only thing I've found is the feeling that my legs are pushed over to the left compared to my normal daily driver (2006 BMW 3 series)

Well i thought i'd found it......but i haven't. Actually start to dread long drives at the moment. The seat being higher seems better (less angled up to my hip/knee) but the lumbar seems to dig into my lower back (making me feel like i'm arching my back forward) and the base only supports halfway up my thighs before they are just up in the air. I can get my entire leg supported, however i'll only be ever driving in one gear as at that distance i can't depress the clutch!

In the correct position, is the seat going to provide you with the support and comfort you need?
If so, first make sure you can obtain full, free movement and adjustment by removing obstructions and lubricating seat mechanisms where necessary. Take a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72qpgA7Cr_4 for tips on obtaining optimum seat position.
If you are unable to obtain the optimum from the stock position, it is possible to remount the seat rails in order to provide further adjustment. This involves removing the seat and undertaking some minor re-engineering.
If the seat itself is proving unsuitable for you, the only option is to fit a different one and retain the original for selling the car on later.
Regards,
Clive.

Excellent reply, Lancerlot - hopefully this works for the OP, and it'd be nice if all drivers thought about their driving position.
The proliferation of Autos right now doesn't help much, but seeing drivers slouched back in the seat with one arm ramrod-straight on top of the wheel...grrr
