second hand values 996

Hi there, being new here, and hailing from the home country of Porsche, I was somewhat surprised about the 996 second hand values. Seems that depreciation is a much larger issue in the UK than in Germany.

I am looking to buy a 996 C2 (budget 30k, private sale, plus the Porsche warranty), around the 2000 model year, 40-45k mileage, silver color with decent spec. Whatcar.co.uk puts such a car square at my budget, but knowing that prices are a bit fluid, what is the opinion of the forum members?

Also, being a glutton for punishment when it comes to weather, I might look at the Cabrio too - I suppose price premium around 3k?

Many thanks for all your help!

Personally, I think the 996 is great value, and £30k would give you a lot of choice.

However, if you can, it is worth stretching the budget to nearer £35k for a 2002> 3.6 'facelift' model. These later cars incorporated a lot of improvements and are generally regarded as better resolved and more durable. Must haves are the extended Porsche warranty and, imo, the PSE.

Best buy might be from a sensibly priced, private sale. But, even if it has the warranty, get it ppi'd.
