Secret number plates

I notice that when an avitar or photo is posted on this forum any number plate is usually made unreadable (see left!). I'm sure there is a good reason for being coy about your registration. Could someone please enlighten me.
 
no known reason - I use various avatars and the one featuring my car clearly shows JM79 as the reg...
 
I do not see the point of secret plates. I was proud of W888BOX on my black boxster S which I used to show as part of my signature and I'm now very proud of C4S XL.

Kevin C4S XL is a strange number plate for a Boxster [:D][:D]
 
There was a bit of debate on hiding number plates on this forum a while back.

It boiled down to worries about car cloning and privacy.
