Having taken delivery of a new Boxster 2.7 over the weekend I am now faced with the prospect of having to park it all day in a public car park outside work in the rough part of town! It looks very inviting to allcomers being so shiny and new. I have had a tracker fitted this morning but am now thinking of some kind of visable deterent like a Diskloc. I wouldn't want to buy one only to find it rubs the leather or doesn't fit correctly. Can anybody recommend such a product ?

Hi there,

I've used Disklok's for years, never had a problem.

Try and get the proper bag for it though, stops the thing banging around in your boot.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. Disklok looks to do the job just fine from what i've seen.
re GAP cover, I haven't had a chance to look through the brochure I was given but it certainly seems good value at the price I was quoted by OPC. I should really get some

Hi Jon,
I understand how a diskloc would be a deterrent for passer-by/opportunist but I feel if anyone, however amateur, can break into a Porsche then they will have the means and intention to drive it away i.e. if they have the technology to bypass the immobiliser and alarm system then taking off the Diskloc would be trivial to them...

Remember Boxster 2.7 is insurance group 18E (E for Exceeds security requirement) and with Security Code T1 i.e. an alarm/immobiliser combination that has been judged to comply to the Thatcham criteria. Most will try and break into your house to get the keys, in which case the Diskloc keys would most likely be in the same bunch but at the end of the day it is what is peace of mind for you and it seems like Diskloc will give you that.

I'm usually more concern about vandalism i.e. scratches, tears in such areas rather then someone actually capable of stealing the car"¦

Porsche Return to Invoice GAP insurance is excellent value; my car cost £52K yet the insurance cost 'only' £400. The equivalent BMW policy would have cost £1820!

Car crime in a public place is very opportunistic so for the sake of £50 or so a diskloc would give me a little extra piece of mind, however small. I fully agree with you THX911 that if someone really did want your car then no amount of security would deter them, and some would stop at no lengths to have ago, including breaking into your house for the keys etc. It's just the world we live in. This being my first Porsche I should just get out there and enjoy it instead of worrying about something that might not happen.

Delbox with regards to the GAP Insurance my OPC has quoted me £690 for my £36K Boxster 2.7 A little higher than yours but still good valve for my I feel, even better if i can get it down some more.

Jon, try to force them down - because the cost is negotiable! However, even at £690, it's good value.

OPC quoted me £800 GAP cover but I managed to get it for £350, I'd shop around.
Having said that at £800 its a lot less than I was expecting.

Jon you have just bought a boxster off them ...and they want how much for gap ins?? they are taking the pi!!! just a little.Try £250 do not get fobbed off. Re your security... just watch out in case any one is hanging about or around the area when you go to return back to your vehicle. Its the easy option to threaten you with weapon and demand the keys, then drive off....... but sod em! enjoy the car, best of luck with the gap ins,[:)][:)][:)]
