Self maintenance + future values

Hi

Can someone tell me if fixing or maintaining your car detracts from the future value?

In this world of history and receipts is it acceptable that we change the oil and carry out minor repairs ourselves? Thus not receiving a stamp in the book or a file or receipts for labour.

Obviously if something needs doing it will be done but seeing as my car should only cover about four thousand miles a year, do I still service every six months or would one service a year suffice?

Thanks

Rob

I know the situation you are faced with. I suggest the following:- Whenever you decide to do something yourself, research the subject, and then (if possible) try to document / copy the documentation associated with the procedure.

Drop this into a document, along with the reciept for the part(s) you are changing.

Date the form, and then file in the history of the car in the normal way. With this process, then your decision stands scrutiny, and you are making it easy for people to read Why, How and in what manner you did the work.

I always make my own notes of any purchase by date, staple it to an A4 sheet, and then write up the circumstances surrounding the purchase.

Use OPC's / specialists for the items when you think a special tool no. XYZ or a skill you don't have is required.

Always ensure the key service dates are met, and the service record stamped.

Just my euro's worth.

Thanks for your advice Steve

For your info, I've noticed a 911CS for sale in August's issue of Classic cars for sale.

It's at Motorvation in Sarrett, Herts and reads as follows :

1988 2 owner car, 1 or 53 made, immac in every way, never painted, 64000miles - £28500 Registration no. F21 RRO

Hope this is one of your missing ones

I wonder if that's the car belonging to the owner of Motorvation? I had heard that he'd been given a CS as payment for restoring an old Bentley or Rolls some time ago!
