I have £1500. I am looking for the best I can get. I would like one with the oval dash and its got to have mot.

what have you?

James [;)]

Sorry about my joke, Jeremey Clarkson just bought one for £1500 (again), I dont think you would get much 944 for that but it might get you a tidy 924 if that would suit?

Edd

£1500 and "best you can get" don't go together at all [&:]

I've spent more than that this year maintaining my car and if you do manage to find one for £1500 it will "probably" need twice as much spending on putting things right. Perhaps as Ed suggested take a look at the 924 market there maybe some nice but not imacculate 924's to be had for around the £1500 mark.

copper apologies for my "short" reply I hadnt realised that top gear had done anything relating to a 944 since the last time. I just happen to have £1500 and I would like a 944 again.

Dlknight, I am happy to accept the best I can get for £1500, I am well aware of the costs involved in owning running and maintaining a 944 to a decent standard, as I owned a "mint" 944s up until last year when I was made redundant.

I am still looking for a nice one, if anyone is looking to part with their's for around that figure I have been to see a couple locally and have enquired about others, luckily I have plenty of choice for around that amount, I would obviously rather buy one from here where I know "most" are enthusiasts.

I only paid a few hundred for my 87 Lux however, it did need:

Gearbox
Driveshafts
Clutch
battery

so it owes me a few quid....

but unlike my alfa i had, i dont mind spending the money on it

No worries, for that money your probably best looking at a lux, if your willing to accept high mileage and some body rust you should be able to find something. It just may not be all that pretty or need a fair amount of work. One thats recently had a clutch, belts and some recent service history would be preferable.

A badly maintained and neglected 944 will probably cause you more expense and frustration than you may want, therefore not really making it worthwhile. So take your time and be cautious.

Good luck in your search..

well as per jez, I have found an s2 that has been taken as a px, luckily for me by someone that hasnt a clue what he has, listed just as a 'Porsche', I enquired and recieved some pictures in an email not 10 minutes ago, a 1991 J plate s2, with 171k miles fsh, recent engine rebuild and a cam kit less than 4k miles ago and under 2 years, hes asking £1750 ono!!!! im not holding my breath, but to say im excited is an understatement! lol

Sounds good,

Make sure or budget for belts, waterpump, tensioners and rollers if they haven't been done (or no proof of them being done). Also with the 16v you mention cam kit? has it had brand new camshafts fitted? these are sometimes known to be a problem on the 16v as the cam chain and its associated slipper pad isn't regarded as a service item. It stretches over time and becomes slack which can cause damage to the teeth on the camshafts, there is also a tensioner which I think is usually recommended to replace too. Do a quick search on camshafts or cam chain and you should find a good few threads of what to ask/look out for.

EDIT: Sounds like it has had either a belt failure or cam chain failure, hence the rebuild... I'd check what work was actually done and receipted for as it may have only had the minimum work required to get it running again rather than a thorough rebuild...

Hope it truely is the bargain you are after [;)]

cant fault a bargain, if im not sure I have a friend who I can take with me. he posts on here as "944 man" hes been with me to look at a few in the past. to be fair even if it needs the work, at that price I can buy it and park it up and get it sorted at my leisure. thanks for the replies [:)]

I thought I found a bargain a few months ago it was a late S2 in black for £1200 and only round the corner. Had to go and have a look, but every panel was bent some were matt black and the interior was in the boot! At £1200 you could still make a few £££ in selling the parts, to much work for me.

Anyway best of luck, oh dont take that '994 man' with you, I've been told he knows nothing about 944's[:D]

Keep us posted, as for that money if you dont have it I would like a look.
