Selling 944 parts on E Bay

If you are thinking of doing so avoid enquires from a buyer in the Netherlands (ersatzteile944) because he wins items and then does not want to pay.

He contacted me asking if I would post a particular part overseas but went on to bid on a further 4 items without asking for a cost of shipping first. After winning said items he asked for a price small packets via airmail.
As one item was a distributor cap I was not prepared to put these items in a jiffy bag, I boxed these up and went to the post office to get a price. Now to me a total of £15 to post 5 items overseas (1.2kg) does not sound bad to me, the buyer has other ideas though and does not want to pay more than £9.50 shipping.
I can't believe he is haggling over £5.50 for some bargain small Porsche parts, he has asked me to cancel his bid but in the meantime guess what? he went on to bid and win another item.

First rule of ebay is "no overseas buyers"......[&o]

All you can do is leave stinking feedback, and include a really accurate postage in advance if you want to take the risk.

Of course, the forum "for sale" area is free, and most people here are trustworthy! [;)]

I wouldn't cancel the bids, I'd go to "resolve a problem" and select "buyer has not paid yet" or whatever it says along those lines.

Then he gets a message from eBay asking him to buy based on the invoice you sent. If he doesn't pay, he gets a black non-paying bidder mark on his account. You can do this for EVERY item he's won.

eBay blackmail works both ways, use all the tools you have available to you as a seller because eBay naturally favours buyers. I sell a LOT on eBay. I know.

What a lot of buyers don't understand is when they press "place bid" they're entering a legally binding contract with you to buy the item at that price. If you as a seller don't want to cancel the bid, you are no way obligated to.

You can do that, but the unfortunate side effect is castrating a huge buyer pool from your auction.

I've sold quite a few mr2 parts as far as Australia with no problems. I think you just get the same wasters in all countries, we've got plenty here too.

I have fallen foul of this idiot. He bought an S2 fuel rail and injector set and despite me finding the cheapest possible postage he wouldn't pay and wouldn't respond to email. I reported him to Ebay and then re-advertised the item stating that it was re-advertised due to non paying bidder ersatzteile944. Lo an behold he then got in touch to complain about the new ad and claimed he hadn't responded to email because he was on holiday.

Thank you for your replies gents, I'm on to e bay about him and when I relist them I certainly will add his name in the auction description.

I've got a feeling you can actually stop individual people bidding,it's in the settings somewhere

Yes you can. From the eBay help pages:

To add a member to your blocked list:
1. Go to the "Block bidders or buyers from your listings" page.
2. Enter the user IDs of the members you want to block.
3. Click Submit.

EDIT: The "Block bidders or buyers from your listings" page is here: http://cgi1.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?bidderblocklogin

Unfortunately Ebay rules mean you can't leave 'negative' feedback for buyers. All you can realistically do is report them and wait for Ebay to act.

On the whole I've not had too many bad experiences and you can usually shift almost anything with no problem so long as you describe it accurately. Charges are a bit steep especially now they take 10% of postage as well.

Ive come across him twice and although I stait no overseas bidding,he still bids and then either haggles on postage or backs out.I have him on my blocked list but beware because he has another account too showing a Reading address!

Well, you can, and I have!

I guess the issue here is you can only leave feedack once a transaction's complete? If it's not, for instance they won't pay, then you have to go through the complaints proceedure.

I appreciate it's correct that, if you exclude overseas bidders, you limit your market. I have to wonder, though, with small parts for a common car, whether postage abroad means people bid low, win an item, then fall over at the shipping charges and pull out?

There's a thriving 944 market in the UK, through PCGB and Tipec. I can't believe that any part would sell for more abroad, after costs, than from a free ad on the two forums?

Nope, you can't leave negative feedback for a buyer. You used to be able to but not anymore.

I had put no overseas bidders but when he contacted me I thought, what the heck I'd help out another Porsche owner. I'm going to contact e bay again to remind them he is a persistent problem

I've saved this guy as a preferred seller now. The second he lists anything I'll be bidding away so he can deliver to my cousin in the Congo for £2.76 same day signed for insured shipping :)

I informed the buyer that I had let Ebay know he has made a habit of this practice and I got a response.

hello Scott,

i could hardly believe that you actually called for help in a Porsche forum

until i found one page where you talked about me and this so called issue

first of all i take exception to the fact that you call my username in a (public) forum

due to privacy reasons as you may understand!

secondly i am quite surprised to hear from you that someone else apparently confirmed about having problems with me ..

ofcourse i am quite curious WHO.is person.?

furthermore you stated that you already reported me to Ebay to tell some falsehood..

and now you still expecting that i am willing to pay,.. to reward you?

request you to tell/ explain me and maybe there is a way to solve this matter

Niels

Well, Neils, did you pay for the items in full, including the seller's very reasonable postage to Europe? Or not?

If not, don't bid on overseas items. Postage is expensive and time-consuming. Wasting a trip to get the package weighed/priced costs sellers more than the items are worth most times!

Forums are great for helping each other out. That works both ways. If you were a reliable buyer, you'd be recommended here. [:)]

I've had people demand a refund before when I've charged them.. say.. £6 postage and the stamp on the box they receive says £4.

Yes, those people exist.

People who don't realise that it's payment for Postage & Packing, which includes the time taken to pack said item(s).

Bubblewrap and boxes apparently grow on trees in my back garden.

So he's worried that his username on eBay has been posted on an Internet forum, it's a good job his username doesn't appear anywhere else on the internet then. Unless you count eBay. One of the world's biggest commerce sites.

Interesting that he chooses to make his eBay feedback private too, something to hide ersatzteile944? If that is your real name, [;)]
