Selling 968 Sport - dilemma

Hi All

I have a 968 Sport which I need to sell as I have a new car arriving in about 6 weeks (a 335i M Sport coupe, flame away!).

Now for the problem. The car is mechanically in good shape, has extensive service history, air conditioning and only 61k on the clock. The bad part is the paint. After 13 years it's a little tired with some stone chips and parking scrapes, which in itself wasn't too bad but now some miscreant has keyed it on five panels!

So I am looking at £2.5k for a respray, which I can't really avoid. If I go through insurance I will pay £700 excess and they will only pay for half the car to be resprayed. As this will look rubbish I would end up paying the extra to get the whole lot done, so back to square one [8|].

And now I will try to get to the point of this rambling [;)]. Is it worth getting it painted, ie will I get my money back on a paint job? I see some nice cars being advertised privately for £12k, others for £8k. If it will only sell for the latter, I may as well cut my losses and sell it for peanuts on Ebay. I'd rather it went to a good home obviously but needs must and all that!

Any opinions or does anyone fancy a cheap car for a trackday project? [;)]

Tough choice, the mileage and A/C make it a desirable car, what colour is it? At this time the market seems a little slow for 968's. Good ones make good money, poor ones are going cheap, it sounds as though yours would be a good one if the paint were right but that does not mean it will sell for top book, is there no halfway house? Get the panels that need done sprayed but all the other panels properly polished?

Sorry to be no more help, I wish I were in the market for a 968 as a sport with A/C would be a preffered option for me.
 
If I was in the market for a 968 (which unfortunately I am not at the mo') I would prefer to buy a car with the damage (and at a suitably lowered price) so that I can decide how to rectify it.

I would be very unlikely to buy a car which had fresh paint, basically because I am a cynic and assume that most sellers would not invest much money/effort in a car they are not intending to keep...or put another way there are too many tart-up paintjobs which fail within a short space of time.

Is it the Iris blue one you had..I thought youde sold that long ago....Or have you bought yourself another..???

As Pete has said. The market for 968,s is slow at present. BUT i think its going to change....I hope so as ive got my cabrio on the market...

If it were me. Ide be wanting to buy it as is.. without any work,,, But like alexg has just said, it would have to be priced accordingly...

You may find that if it's an enthusiast buying it he'd have a preferred paint shop as well. It wouldn't hurt to advertise "as is" I guess, you can get the paint done if you get no interest (whereas you can't get the car "unpainted" once its done).
