Ok I know the market is awful but!

I'm looking to sell my 911 ... Need to change from a C2 to a Targa!

A 1998 C2 in Ocean Blue. Savannah interior. 14000 miles!! Seriously! Sport Design Wheels that have just been refurbished with new Michelin Sports on them. Just serviced, with new brake discs and pads all round. Swissvax Mirage wax (zymol Vintage eqiv) detailing. It is like a new car inside and out. Obviously the odd mark/scratch! Being very picky!

A top car. If I didn't need to swop to the Targa (long story) I wouldn't even think of selling it!!!

I know the market is full of 996's but this is a bit special. Ok Ok it is mine so I am biased obviously!

Whats a "sensible" price?

and do be nice! .. anyone saying £15K will be really annoying me! [:(]
 
Well I am no expert on Porsche pricing, however I do waste far to much time autotrader surfing so here goes...

Currently to my mind a bogo 98 996 C2 is worth around £17K since this is where the prices are at for the cars I have seen on autotrader that look like decent buys. This is with around 60K to 80K miles.

Other cars at this sort of price point seem to be worth around £2K more for dropping mileage down to 35K to 40K, half again is rare so difficult to put a number on for me.

Ignoring spec and working on the assumption "standard" spec 98 C2 I would reckon £20K+ is a price I personally would be willing to pay and I am a bargain hunter so you could sensibly pitch higher.

The mileage is amazingly low which unfortunately is much more attractive on a 20+ yr old car rather then a model like the 996. Still though if someone likes the spec of your car and is intending to only do 1K or 2K PA then in 10 years time they will have a fairly uniquely pristine low mileage car that by then I am sure will be seen as a classic.


 
Unfortunately, for all sellers of sports & 4x4 the market is collapsing fast, meaning that although their vehicles might well worth an X-amount of money, there are not any buyers available to afford them.
The market is just holding a bit better for luxury sports/4x4, only because people at that price bracket do not need to sell.
If you DO need to sell your car, sell it as fast as possible before you loose even more in the next year or so.
 
I'd look for someone wanting to swap from a Targa to a C2 - there you will find someone happy to deal.

I'd love to hear the long story, as I can't quite work out how you would NEED to move from a C2 to a Targa. :rolleyes::rolleyes:. (WANT, I can understand perfectly). [:D] [:D]

It all depends on how quickly you want to sell. I sold my 98/Ocean/Savannah/Tip/C2/86000 for £16500, because I didn't want to hang about, having decided to change. A car with as low a mileage as yours will be attracctive to someone, and compensates somewhat to being lower spec. IMO you might get £20k if you are prepared to wait, but more like £18k if you want to move it faster. Trouble is, there are too many others out there. The more you ask, the longer you will wait.

My experience is to forget any free advertising here, Pistonheads, 911UK, etc, and go for the Autotrader web site. Mine sold in 4 days to the first viewer, with a list of 3 to call if he didn't buy it. (Two weeks on the free sites and not a single reply).

Just my 2p's worth. I hope you don't hate me now.......
 
Low milegae is a bonus for the next owner, but not so much for you selling i'm afraid - when buyers have a set budget , they are more likely to go for a newer car with say 40-50k miles on it rather than one a few years older with low miles. Low miles aren't the be all and end all - your car has averaged under 30 miles a week, so its spent a long time sitting stationary, which isn't always good (flat spotted tyres etc). If its on its original tyres it may well fail the next MOT due to tyre age (not sure on this one, but maybe worth checking if the MOT is near, or a new one put on for sale).

I think you'd be lucky to see £18k for it private sale at the moment - you need something like one of the Peter Morgan used car articles in 911+PW magazine to get sufficient attention i think for anything more based on low miles.

Pistonheads is always a very good guide - knock £1k off the asking prices and you get somewhere close to what people are actually selling for.

Very low mileage on a '98 Carrera would actually put me off, I'd rather buy one that's been used and has had money spent on it rather than be the person to find all the problems by doing 12k a year in the car. Having said that most buyers would probably disagree and see low mileage as a bonus.

I'd guess it would sell quickly at 17-18k but at 20k it's up against average miles 2000 MY cars, which can still have a Porsche warranty for a few years.

If it were my money the change to a Targa isn't a big enough move to bother, same performance but with a much smaller market come re-sale time... and a leaky roof [;)]

The thing is if you are looking to buy another 911 in a market that is not very strong at the moment then it is all very relative, as the one you buy will have dropped as well. I think to do a trade in against a Targa from a good Indy would be a good option as there are some deals to be done in the motor trade at the moment.

Of cause Service History, condition no of owners are also very important factors as well as low mileage.

waw!!if your car was a 993 you`d be looking at £40k plus!!!
sadly for a 996 you`ll be lucky to get half that imo(even with your miles etc)

Wow that is something, next spring likely to be down to 18K or so at this rate and IMHO would make a perfect euro tourer which is my main criteria for my next car. 996's really are in the toilet right now and given that cars like the Targa are the least favourite amongst enthusiasts I can only see some major bargains ahead.

Maybe there's some crossed wires here, but that car is a Cat D repair, and the interior doesn't look green to me.

SORRY. That will teach me to click the more.... link and read the rest where it clearly says CAT D.

Looking at the pictures I thought the interior was Nephrite Green but looking again it's the light coming through the green tinted Targa top making the black look green, especially in the shot of the rear seats.

Non CAT D Targa's seem to start at around £24K and with more miles on them (50+k).
