Selling my car

z2015

New member
I have finally decided to sell my car a 1997 993 Targa, 42000miles ,2 owners.
Please could you advise me:
_Where are the best places to advertise?
_How do you conduct test drives?
_How is it best to collect collect payment safely?
Thanks
Tony

Be on the lookout for false Banker's Drafts. There have been numerous stories of people accepting a draft for payment and 10 days later it comes back as invalid. This leaves you with no car and no money.
Call the Bank branch that issed the draft (obtain the telephone number yourself - don't ring a number the buyer gives you) and they can confirm if the draft is genuine.

Hi Tony
Colour , price, and picture on here would be a good start. Also forum as already mentioned .
But why would anyone in there right mind want to sell a 993 Targa, unless of course you are replacing it with a 993 S
Whichever the case , good luck.

Because they are owned by extroverts and exhibitionists who are into dogging, according to a 911 mag [:D][:D][:D][:D]

Hi William
And I thought we brought them for the light, the sun, the stars, the wind in the hair at the touch of a button etc etc. But now we've been found out. Damm!!!
ps Tony , now you'll have shed loads of calls

Careful with the test drives. I was once with a "buyer" for about an hour, chewing the fat, as you do.He looked the goods, carried a small briefcase, said it held the cash. I made a mistake during a driving changeover - got out of the car, allowing him to slide over as I went round the back. Clunk click and he was gone, with a nonchalent wave. Plod tried to catch him later, but he outran them all. Found the car ( SC sport targa) in Basingstoke four days later.Got the scrote but I was not allowed to give him a thump.

Make sure you take the keys out whilst you scoot round to sit back in the passenger side, then hand them over. Should save the embaracement of the above.

Lucky you got your car back, especially as insurance cos usually don't pay out under those circumstances. Did the police prosecute the guy, or did they make excuses and let him off ?

He got prosecuted. A few hours community service and fine of £175 - to pay for a small rip in the drivers bucket seat leather. Got the bunce quite quickly, though.

Thanks Maurice and Stephen for you both questioning my decision to sell! Having tried various cars I see you are right and I am keeping my targa! I wont test its doggability .....honest!
Thanks too to the others who came up with most helpful comments.
