Selling the Car - Or Trying To!!

I am trying to sell my 2000 Boxster S and based upon the trade-in value offered to me by OPC's against other cars, I don't feel I am asking a lot in fact it's a bargain. However, having tried both Porsche Post (a couple of times) and Pistonheads.com with not a single enquiry, can someone advise me on the best place to try and sell my car for cash without actually giving it away. Thanks.

TRy www.boxa.net or www.porsche-1.net for a more captive audience.

After that you could try ringing some independents like www.9virgin.com or camtune or paragon

Pete - if it is a July 2000 car and you have it advertised at £28,500, like in your for sale ad here, then you have it advertised at least £5k too much IMHO.

My mate just paid £22k for a 2000YR 18,000 mile 3.2S with all the bells and whistles in the right colour and full OPC SH.

Just my 2p worth....

Thats very interesting thanks for the advice. I have been asking for a figure of £25,000 having been offered £24K by a dealer against another vehicle. What does shock me is the figures you quote of £22k for an 18Kmile top notch car, sort of blows the theory out of the water that Porsches hold their value any better than other vehicles. IMHO they are much worse, assuming I also sold mine for only £22K it would have lost over £5K a year in capital depreciation alone making a 42% loss in three years, pretty poor I would say.

Looks like my next car will be a Rover 25, should get a good deal on one of those at the moment!

Bid lost in money, but even 58% retained value is good, albeit not the 72% claimed by the motoring mags.

I never believed the figures for the Boxster - a £40k car that they'll give you £30k back for in 3yrs. By the time the OPC add £5k for their prep and cut, that'd be £35k on the forecourt. Who would pay that for a 3 yr old car.

The 72% is nearer the difference in retail costs from new to 3ys old, ie 72% on the forecourt.

It was probably also calculated against the lower list price when car prices were forced down.
