Sensible price for a 87 944 needing done TLC

Had the classic note through my letterbox asking if the 944 it's for sale. I was planning to sell once I'd tidied it up a bit but struggling to get the time and now want rid. I'm thinking 6k but don't want to rip anyone off (or give it away for waaay too little).

It's a 87 turbo, 153k miles, white, M030 suspension, 17" wheels, 8 way electric seats etc. Gap in service history.

It's had a tonne of work done on it by me including engine mounts, belts, precautionary head gasket, caliper refurb, sills, clock and dash plastics replaced, new Michelin cup sports, compression tests perfectly, new leads/distributor, MOT'd and loads of other stuff.

Anyway it still has these problems, parking dings, few spots of rust (cosmetic only), seats ripped in two places, other general tattyness. Been quoted 500 to refurb the seats (plus material) and ideally a repeat would bring it back to good condition. Some tidying under the bonnet required too (power steering rubber pipes at top) and maybe some door seals.

So 6k sound right or am out being optimistic at that?

Any advice appreciated, I'll pop a few pics up.

TBH I think you bare selling it short. All the work done suggests it is mechanically vey sound. It is no coincidence I think that folk are canvassing you for a sale because they know how Turbos are appreciating. I imagine they are fast becoming an investment option. I haven't stood in front of the car so wouldn't dream of giving you a price but £6k seems weak for a sorted car with only cosmetic work needed to me. My advice keep it, get the work done then enjoy it and watch it appreciate or sell it then for what it would be truly worth.

I have to agree, £6k should see that car snapped up. Its far from being a shed. I would actually invest the £2k odd to address and the seats the rust etc.. then after a while if u still want rid you could well be looking at nice suprise.

Hi Rob, thanks for the response. I'm never sure what these cars are actually selling for though, I realise there are high priced ones (low mileage, good spec etc) on pistonheads but are they actually selling for that. And what do the higher mileage not mint ones go for? I followed a few on ebay and the prices those ended at where actually quite normal (not 10k+ for example).

Perhaps I should just let him take a proper look round and see what he’s willing to pay? The fact is I’ve not really got the time to continue to look after it, or more accurately I’ve got another car that needs the TLC even more!

Cheers,

Dunc.

yep...far too cheap...that price is more for a car that's close to scrapping requiring a complete restoration......I agree with Rob...keep it, you'll only regret selling it later...

Right or not 100k miles is where these 25+ year old cars get the first financial kicking from investor/collector types, and 150k is where they get another. It's all very well saying the cars are worth this or that but the reality is the new money can be incredibly picky. I'd say this car sorted would be worth around £10-12k without waiting months for a buyer. Cars like Pete's are a different matter.

6k is definitely too cheap, your potential buyer has obviously had a look at the car and will have a price in mind what they are prepared to pay. I'd suggest contacting them indicating that you are thinking of selling and that they are more than welcome to make you an offer, you never know it might be better than you expected or at the very least open negotiations.

I agree with all said, 6k sounds cheap if the rust is really only cosmetic. PCGB have just valued mine at 18k with 195k on the clock so as said see what the guy offers, but my advise is keep it. How much do you have to pay for a 1987 high mileage 911 turbo?

Thanks for all the responses, definitely food for thought. Actually tempted to keep it and continue the tidy up process a bit more now!

I'll get him to take a look at the car now and just see what he says, might get rid of another car instead?!? :ROFLMAO:

Cheers,

Dunc.

Hi Dunc,

Interested in the cars on eBay that were going for less than 10k? You do know the sale prices (i.e. auction style results) and were they all definitely turbos? I've only ever seen Classified Ads (when I've dreamed in turbos...)

If you look at the Classified Ads prices you may as well pick 5 random numbers (1-9) out of a hat!
