Sensor Advice.

Started to strip bits of the 220 turbo tonight to sort rich running when warm, ended taking off loads of bits with a view to replacing clips and cleaning.
I noticed a sensor about 5 inches behind the temp sensor (blue plug) it has a blue/ blue white wire running to it and was wondering what it is used for, in the region of No 1 plug ??

That will be the temp sensor for the gauge... the one with the blue plug is the temp sensor for the DME

Thanks Jon,
PET showed it as "secondary sensor" and it is a 928 part number, thanks for letting me know it sends to the guage as it has nothing to do with my running rich when warm, i changed the other around 12 months ago, yet when starting from cold everything is as it should be, yet when up to temp is stalling and stuttering and running rich.
I have the car in bits at the moment (86 Turbo) looking for split hoses and the like, i will be changing anything that looks tired whilst in there.

Check the fuel pressure with the engine running, let it run until it starts to run rough and see what fuel pressure it has.

Thats interesting... A standard one should be 2.5 bar, the one you had on there was 3.0 bar.. one of them, or both of them are iffy, because in theory, whatever chips you have in there, you should see a real difference when changing the fuel pressure by 0.5 bar.

Used fuel pressure regulators bugger themselves up just sitting on the shelf once they have been used, so there is a chance the std one you put on there, unless it was brand new, could be buggered... and usually the mode they become buggered in is causing high fuel pressure.

I would be tempted to say it still might be fuel pressure related.

Another potential cause could be the airflow meter, when the wiper track gets worn, they do all kinds of unusual things.. have you done the "bending the wiper arm" on the air flow meter "repair" yet?

Cheers Jon,
Yes the car has a non standard chipset and was running 3 bar FPR i replaced it with a standard 2.5 bar one though not new ! i may borrow one of my mateys car that is running fine to rule it out, AFM wiper arms were reseated last year and the tracks cleaned with alcohol...........what a waste [:D]
