Seperate trackday insurance

Hello All,

Who here on the 996 forum tracks their car and does not have trackday insurance on their premium but pays seperately for cover on the track.

My question to those who have done this is - with who and how much have you paid in the past?

Cheers if you take the time to reply

I get 5 per year (not enough!) with my NU road policy. They should cost £105 per day, but due to a fortunate mistake during the quoting process, I get them for £50 this year. Some tracks I know well and have lots of run-off so I don't insure there. Also airfield tracks I don't bother insuring for. 10% excess is typical for this kind of arrangement.

The alternative is to use MORIS (I have to use them for foreign tracks) but they're £160/day and the terms are far less favourable (max of £50/hr on repairs). Better than nothing though.

I recently faced a similar problem with my first ever trackday at the beginning of June.I could not get supplementary insurance for less than £90 per event. I ended up cancelling my existing insurance early, and going with ClassicLine (contact details in PP). They gave me full cover on limited mileage -7,500pa; four track days per year; 90 day European cover and UK and European breakdown cover for under £400 - Oh, and lower excesses than my previous insurer
Hope that's of some help

i did my first ever track evening at bedford a month or so ago, and paid £125 (0.5% of the value of the car) with a £2.5k excess with MORIS i believe, because it was my first time.

however, not going to bother for the next one at bedford as you would have to be doing something moumentally stupid to actually manage to hit anything and insurance doesn't cover the drivetrain anyway which is the most likely thing to go bang

Here's a good reason to insure...

:-(

not sure, only if you're going to drive like a maniac like the aston driver was. but then you shouldn't be allowed on the track anyway and the guy is having his GT3 paid for by the aston driver AIUI, so even if the GT3 driver had been insured, it would have made any difference as the crash wasn't his fault anyway. just bl**dy bad luck for him

What if the "at fault" driver isn't able to pay for repairs...?

excellent point, well made. i guess it all boils down to how much risk a person is willing to take. helluva argument to just buy something cheap and thrash it round the3 track though ;)

Its also amazing how many people at the scene of an accident say they'll pay....... and then the next day say it was all your fault!

I wonder what the bottom line is with this..... Anyone a lawyer? I suspect the cost of mounting a case would be similar to paying for the repairs, but with no guarantee of winning! [:(]

Doesn't specialist track-day insurance cover you if someone hits you ? Suely that's the greatest risk, because you can be careful, but you can't control the other driver' actions.

it should cover for claims on your car or someone claiming for their car AIUI (pretty sure i checked that when i got mine)

I have Track Day cover included in my policy with RSA through AON but it excludes car to car contact. I seem to remember that some time ago I was looking into Track Day insurance and all the quotes also excluded this. They also exclude the 'Ring which is a pain.

If you still want to do track days, don't want to cough up on insurance and don't mind a different car then sign up to BookaTracks emails and wait for the Caterham offers coming in. All inclusive of car, fuel, track day entry and you don't have to worry about wearing tyres out just how much excess you are prepared to pay in the event of an off damaging the car. I usually share the day with a friend and then make sure its open pit , so you can swap over, wait for the brakes to cool and go straight back out. Brilliant. I think it cost me about £450 for the day last time at Donno, so £225 each. I don't think that was a bad deal
