September Build 997TT
- Thread starter graham m
- Start date
It's well worth the trip. I've been over to the factory twice and it's a memorable experience. I shall be making my third trip next month!
One tip - try and coincide it with a date when the Nurburgring north circuit is open. http://www.nuerburgring.com/. You'll never forget picking up your new Porsche and driving the 'Ring!
Clive
I should be able to let you know what it's like by the end of the month. Requested collection on friday 29th - this now has to be confirmed by the factory then DER Tours will confirm the flights and accomodation.
Mrs M doesn't fancy the diversion to the 'ring [X(], so planning to stay over in the champagne region (near Troyes). Accordinging to on-line mileage calculator that'll be 330 miles on Friday and then 650 miles on Saturday. So.... it should be run in by Monday![

Gary, definitely chrome, and they seem to have been taken off the options list for 07 model year.
mmmm [:-], I have spec'd the stainless steel tips, firstly they weren't available, but now the order has been accepted... The're the usual Porsche tip price so no loss really.
I "should" be taking delivery in November, build date is still not confirmed.
I'm looking at stopping in Boppard which is about 2hrs north of the factory, early morning sprint to the ring and then somewhere else after, where has not yet been decided... Apparently we get 10 days insurance cover in the package, so I plan to make a holiday/trip of it.

Last time I took my 18 year old son with me. The insurance covered him so he was able to co-drive with me back home - also lap the 'Ring. Can't be too many 18 year olds that have done that in a brand new Porsche Turbo straight out of the factory!ORIGINAL: garyw

I have just been reading the clauses in the collection contract... as far as I can read and understand it...
2.1)The car has to be fully paid for prior to your departure
however;
2.2)The title of the vehicle doesn't belong to you until its been registered by the UK dealer and presented to the dealers premises.
however;
2.3)However any Loss incurred during the transit- then the vehicle belongs to you

Yes I've noticed that Porsche seem to have have tightened things up considerably since I my last trip (around 4 years ago). I guess the thing to do is to organise one's own insurance cover on the VIN until it is registered in UK.ORIGINAL: garyw

Saw loads of different specs on cars - majority LHD of course. Quite a few cars being spec'd as Exclusive - eg a Carrera White Turbo with colour coded wheels, trim bits in white & red leather.
Also saw a 997 GT3 RS in Meteor Grey with Orange wheels, script and rear wing end tips (the aerofoil being in Carbon). Unfortunately no cameras allowed inside the factory[&o].
We should have taken more time getting home but leaving our teenage daughters [
The car is awesome - different to the 997S which it replaced. Much deeper engine note, better planted on the road and none of the skitty front end. I did manage to experience some high speed (150+) [8D] driving -just a short burst until the talking speedo (sat next to me) cut in and reminded me of my responsibilies etc.[&:]
To answer a previous question - the tailpipes are now standard Chrome plated which look at tad more in keeping.

After spending more time with the TT please do try to let us know more on how the 997S and the 997TT compare [8|]
I myself had a 30 mins test drive in a TT a few months ago and really liked how well planted it is. I struggled with the manual gearbox though in that I just kept hitting the rev limiter all the time (as the acceleration just eats up the revs!). However, I'm sure that's something quickly mastered given a little time. There was still quite a lot of Turbo lag though which I didn't like compared to my 997S. Other than that I was very impressed [
