Audi sales rose 1.38% in September and are up 2.49% YTD so some good news for Porsche HQ [;)]

Blimey mozza, don't want to be too picky but could we have some decent grammar???? [:)]

Maybe they'll start to appreciate the customers they have a bit more in future!

Although, I must say, Reading have always been very good!

There dosen't seem to be much of a wait for a gen 2 997.

Enquired a couple of days ago. Order one now, build date Nov, on my drive by Christmas.

Trouble is with discounting, that will only further escalate the rate of depreciation. My dealer principle told me the other day that he bought for stock a Cayenne for £15K. Porsche will of course seek to reduce stocks by limiting numbers coming to the UK, something they can (or could) do by sending more to the immerging markets of the Far East. However, there are deals to be done with existing showroom stock, especially Gen 1. Either way, it will make our Gen2s quite rare as few will be sold. One reason why 993 holds its value is just because of that, not just because it was the last of the air cooled.

and because even the base 993 was made by different (and some would say more robust) methods and as a result cost in real terms today equivalent to £150k so not surprising its held its value.....allowing for inflation etc a current £30k 993 is actually only worth 20%of its original value

Unsold Porsche production doesn't help the rate of depreciation either []

Do you mean Porsche are building for stock now? Thought the idea was they build to order apart from demonstrators etc.

Peter

I heard a whisper that OPCs can give up to a £3,000.00 inflated price for trade in Porsches to encourage new sales and the £3,000.00 is refunded to the OPC by Porsche UK.

The wisper hasn't helped me sell my son's Nov 2005 C2S to the OPC. They are still about 3k down on the real value and the figure that a trader will offer. Perhaps I should have negotiated the trade in price before taking delivery of the Gen 2 S ( In White) !

I have a trader who is hoping to do a 'Private Sale' and take a small cut, so perhaps he may come up trumps ?

I dread to think what my daughter's Cayenne S will be worth when she takes delivery of her GTS later this month !

I am now nervous about Grammar!..... Do I get 8/10 ?

It s no surprise that Porsche sales are reduced and for those lucky enthusiasts who buy gen2s I agree with Derek that depreciation may not be so bad (keeping my fingers crossed).

Sounds like your family is single handedly keeping OPC's afloat!! [:D]

[:D] Yes, this may be the case.

Just to give a bit of background, I was a Merc Man for 25 years and we as a family all had Mercs up until 3 years ago. One day in November 2005 I became somewhat unhappy to say the least with Mercedes Benz that I sold 5 Mercs and bought 5 Porsche.

Three years later we are all delighted with the switch, so much so that the lot have been renewed with the final white GTS Cayenne arriving on the 28th of this month.

In the 3 years of ownership the faults have been as follows :

Cayenne..... Tailgate adjustment needed

911 s...........Engine replaced. This sounds major but the OPC investigated a rattle and swapped the engine in the course of a week or so , during which a loan car was supplied.

My three years with Porsche have been a good experience and yes the cars have suffered from higher than expected depreciation, but it would be interesting to see how Porsche prices have held up compared to Mercedes equivilants. A trader friend of mind was telling me about a 55 plate ML with no extras that was doing the rounds with bids of £8,000 !

I don't think there is a shortage of built facelifted 911's if you aren't fussy on spec.

Trouble is, if you are spending £80K, you are fussy. This is not just a shopping runabout and you want it to be special. What is special for one person is often ordinary or awful for another. It is essential to get the spec you want otherwise you will part with it soon. That is even more importnat today with residuals playing a big part in the sell/keep question.

However, if you see something that really catches your eye, then buy it. Problem is, most showroom cars are over loaded and expensive. If the dealer drops the price by £5K, but it has those unwanted ceramic brakes, are you really gaining?
