Series 1 Sunroof Operation

I'll admit it, I'm new to Porsche ownership after many different cars. I can see that the sunroof comes out and have read my owners manual and seen online about how to remove it but can I do it? Can I hell. I have two clips at the front with another permanent metal piece in the middle. There are two extenbible lengths on the back to provide the tilt. Either I'm missing a part that is stopping me from taking the sunroof off or I'm not doing this properly! I've tried having the ignition on, off, halfway. I've tried fully extending the gliders at the back, pushing up at the back, the front and just about everything else I can think off. The only thing left to me is to take out the front centre peice of metal holding things in place so I can lift the sunroof out from the front. I'm sure there must be another way.

Any tips are appreciated.

Quick search revealed this post from Diver944

To unlock the sunroof, switch the ignition key to position 1 only - dont start the car

Press the sunroof UP button. With the key at 1 it will actually make the posts go DOWN into the roof.

Then unclip the front two clips and put sunroof in boot.

After experiencing the wind in hair and buffeting experience put the sunrof back, do up the clips and start the car. The posts should now rise out of the roof by themselves. If not press the UP button again.

You obviously don't want to remove the front centre retaining plate []

Thanks for that. I sense something is not right with my car as it does not want to play the game. The posts do not go down into the roof with the key at any setting - they do go up with the ignition switched fully on but that's it. I guess I'm destined not to see the sun til I get it looked at.....

There is lots of sunroof fixing info if you use the search, there are three microswitches that can move out of alignment or get dirty and no longer switch. However if you are really desperate to remove the roof the motor can be turned using a socket, (or a tool from the tool roll) it is detailed in the handbook. If you wind the arms free then you can lift out the roof.
