It's that time of year when the car is due it's service so before being liberated of large wedges of cash I thought I would ask for some advice from you petrolheads,
The car has only done 4000 miles since it's last service which was a yearly maintenance with brake fluid change Oil & filter change.
Your opinions/experiences folks.................

p.s this is the first time I have had to have the car serviced, still in my first year of ownership.

As it is an 02 I suggest an Indi for your next service and hang on for another 8K miles.

Just IMHO of course.

What's the total mileage on the car? If it's average, at over four years old, there could be a few items deemed as "˜major' in the service schedule irrespective of how many miles it's done since the last one.

To be honest, I wouldn't claim to be best placed to give the most informed answer to your enquiry. There are a number here that are though and I'm sure they will be happy to give you their views.

My S is just over four years old (52 reg. Facelift) with 31k on the clock. Had it serviced at the OPC in Tonbridge in December. It has a full set of OPC stamps (including the routine airbag test at only £30 "" not bad for at least two minutes on the diagnostics centre [:'(]).

John, I was just in the process of typing a reply when I see your recommendation of an indi. It's a valid point for sure. However, I'm thinking that its worth the extra dosh to get the OPC stamp. Particularly if you have a well looked after low milage car. It can't do any harm to your residuals!

1) There are some very reputable indis out there run by real enthusiasts, where a thoughtful buyer would recognise the benefit in cost and not the compromise in quality. I suggest getting on the phone to one or two (they are in PP) and see what they recommend.

2) Why do we get so wrapped up in residuals? Yes, I used to think about this - its the deposit for the next one perhaps? But it is supply and demand which will play the biggest factor here. With over 200000 Boxsters out there somewhere in the world, ubiquity is now a trait of ownership and now, still on my first Boxster, IMHO if its low mileage then it isn't being driven enough!

Quite agree! My car is far from just a weekend toy. The low mileage is down to the previous owners.
I'm just the happy beneficiary! [;)]

The last service may have been a yearly maintenance, but what was done at the service before?
...and at what milage?

Right people, here is the information you requested to help you give me a more informative response.
The mileage is 64k and as far as I can see has been serviced at the correct intervals (give or take a few miles) and has had everything done that should be.
All history is in order up to this point so to cut out the drivel I have just displayed the last three:
35k minor service opc (oil & filters change usual inspection)
48k major service opc (poly-rip-belt/spark plugs)
60k yearly maintenance indi (including oil/filters change & brake fluid change & 4 year status report))
64k ??

I am thinking of using Shirleys of Meriden as my indi, anyone used this garage and got an opinion on it?

It looks as if everything that should have been changed due to age rather than mileage has already been done..poly rib belt, spark plugs etc.

If it were me I wouldn't even bother changing the oil after 4k. Take it to an independent for inspection if you want peace of mind. I doubt any future buyer would question why the car wasn't given an annual service after 4k.

I'd say if you want to maintain condition the most important thing, as hinted above by others, is to give the car a good run regularly [;)]

Looks like it just needs an Annual Check. If it's done less than 9K per year, then it can have this if you have the Service and Maintenance book with this option detailed in the front.

It's about an hour's labour.

Believe it or not that is running it regularly as I have use of a company car so the miles don't rack up that frequently and as it's my pride and joy the winter mileage will be minimal also [:D]
