Service and Warranty

Hi.
Had my 981 Boxster S 2 years now and its due for a major service and renewal of Porsche warranty. ( 54000 miles.2013.)
As this is my first Porsche any thoughts or opinions on whether the Porsche warranty is a good value buy and worth doing and if a genuine Porsche service is worth the extra cost over a good independent.
Obviously you get what you pay for but sometimes cost and service don't always align.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

I’ve had the same questions in mind and have just renewed the warranty on my 2015 car. i intend to keep the car long term and plan to forgo the warranty at some stage in the future. The £660 pa cost doesn’t seam too unreasonable when compared with potential repair costs. When I finally give up the warranty I intend to carry on with OPC servicing as this may have some merit in the future when I want to sell. Just my thoughts.

At the end of the day it is your decision, our 981 GTS is a 2014, and has been serviced by our OPC since new and we used the OPC to have its Drive belts done last year based based on age and not the 4000 miles we have on the clock .. However at that service I passed on Brake fluid change and AC servicing as OPC wanted around 700 GBP extra to "add" them to the major service / belt change they where doing. I will be getting a ready for "spring time" service, inc the brake fluid change and AC service at a local Independent in a month or so and will now continue to use that independent for the Boxster from now on for all servicing and work at about 1/3 OPC costs

IMO Porsche have lost the plot on servicing costs, for instance my Cayenne Hybrid was in for its first 2 year/20K Miles interim service in December and that was over 1000 GBP.. dread to think what a full service will costs these days [:(]

As to extended warranty, I don't do them myself as rarely have I kept my cars for more than 4 years, the 981 GTS will be the exception as I think I'll keep it until I "pop my clogs" .. I was told by my OPC that the good news these days is if you have get full OPC service done you dont have to then pay for the pre warranty inspection they used to insist on

Given the cost of Porsche repairs I think their warranty is pretty good and I'd always chose over an independent policy.

That said I've not renewed my cover on this car but am hoping to replace it fairly soon.

Previously my OPC has managed to get a few things done which technically may not have been covered.

If you are keeping the warranty then Porsche servicing. If not use an indy. I do for my older Boxster but my Macan is under extended warranty (so much more to go wrong) and hence serviced by Porsche

I have a 2013 Boxster S and which I bought second hand from an OPC Just over 2 years ago. The cost to renew the warranty for 2 years (£1,200) and have a full service including replacing the spark plus was nearly £2,600 In total. The cost of the same service at a well respected local Independant with all genuine parts was £625. That’s a large chunk of change towards any future repairs. I think with a lack of cars to sell, the OPC is trying to make up their revenue with servicing bills !!
