I am looking for advice on my next service please. Its a minor service, car is 6 years old and under extended warranty i do about 6000 miles pa. given discount for age local OPC has quoted £260 +£80 if brake fluid change required. Local indi has quoted £235 not asked about brake fluid. Local garage specialising in high perf cars Aston Martin, TVR, Porsche have quoted £149. Is it worth paying extra for porsche stamp in the book? Local reports on OPC not too complimentary. Local indi good reputation. Aston garage lots of experience with high end cars but not porsche trained Aston trained. Don't know which way to go for the best. any views please?

Haven't you rather answered your own question? If you want FPSH, you need to get the book stamped by an OPC. You may find that you can save on the cost by buying your own oil and brake fluid (Opie Oils in club suppliers). Definitely change the brake fluid after 6 years. Slow down on the brakes and not suddenly against something hard.[8|]

I don't see the answer in the question?

I don't think the extended warranty requires a FPSH - in fact the EU has banned this practice as long as the car is serviced in accordance with the manufacturers schedule.

Given the price difference however, I would probably still go to the OPC, with your own oil (confirm if they allow this before you go, some don't) Be prepared to be told that your brake disks are knackered also - seems to be the standard at the moment [;)]

Julie,

I use OPC Newcastle and supply my own oil, also get PCGB discount on parts too,

For price quoted it seems a reasonable offer, also if you need to claim on warranty then everything is on their system and you don't need to prove anything re service record elsewhere.

My experience with warranty claims, I've had 4 in 14 months, means the hassle free factor would swing it for me.

thanks for the advice folks, i think i was veering towards the OPC anyway much for the reasons you suggest Ashley. One of the considerations was resale value and whether the opc stamp would mean more than a non porsche stamp given the age of the car OPC it is then

Its not just the stamp for re-sale. When it comes to a claim / goodwill claim then all those stamps definaly help. If something you want to claim for is borderline then it may go through. Just my 2ps.

my 2ps worth!

Get a minor service done at OPC ... Thats sadly £300 ish for an oil change!

BUT yes you get the stamp in the book!

I then use a small local garage to do EVERYTHING as hes a "proper" mechanic who I know and trust to do a proper job!!

Sadly the horror stories you hear from OPC's is well sad!!

Warranty work can be carried out by any reasonable garage!!

Julie,

I get my oil from Costco around £24 for 4 litres of Mobil 1. I think the OPC's charge £12+vat per litre so immediate saving there before you get your age related labour discount.

decisions decisions

Correct me if I'm wrong but someone told me that Porsche OPC's only change the filter every 2 years and not with every oil change!

So can I just turn up with my tin of oil??

Don't they ever object??

Well decision made, booked for minor service at OPC which is all it needs given my annual mileage. Will check out costco for the oil and make sure they change the filter.

thanks for all the advice folks.

Julie
