Service history

I am just about to buy my first Porsche [:D]. I've just seen a great looking 96 Targa with only 30,000 miles. I've taken it for a test drive which was great, all elecs and a/con worked perfectly and body condition is 99% good.

But there are large gaps in the service history. First four years were all done with OPC. In the next four years it was only serviced twice. And is the past two years it has only had one service (this June) with OPC. In these 6 years it's only covered about 8,000 miles. So it's only had about 7 services in 10 years...

Everyone says these cars are brilliantly built and even though the mileage seems to stack up and the HPI report is clear, I'm vary nervous about parting with nearly 28k and stepping into the unknown...

Anyone got any advice for a 911 newbee?

Thanks
Mark

This is not an unusual situation, unfortunately many of these cars are not daily drivers, and some
owners of these cars, service the car according to the mileage that they have done instead of servicing
the car annually (small or big service depending on mileage). This does not mean that this is a bad car,
just badly serviced.

For peace of mind, I would like to see at least receipts for oil changes etc done while the car was covered in cobwebs [:D]

We all make decisions based on emotion, if you decide to go for i, please get a PPI done.

I second what Alex has said. Buy on condition. Do an HPI check and have the car checked out by an independent specialist.

I personally would not be too bothered at the lack of an annual service if the mileage between services is so low. You have to be realistic.

That sounds a good price for such a low mileage car.

I agree with all of the above. It's not uncommon for such a low mileage car not to be serviced annually. The only problem you are likely to experience is some hesitation from buyers if you decide to sell it on some time soon. If you are going to keep it for a while then it is unlikely to be an issue at sale time.

Definitely get a PPI.

be wary of potential issues from a dormant car

and 30k in 10 years !!! [&:] someone set that car free

ORIGINAL: Diesel130

Do 993 's suffer from RMS too if they are left unused ??

seal dry out as the fluids eventually descent due to free gravity !

but a 993 rms is quite cheap to fix but very rare it actually goes wrong anyway

Yep, don't assume a low mileage car will always be trouble free. 993s thrive on being used hard including the occasional thrap round a race track.

Get a PPI from a reputable source and you should be fine.

Do you know what was done at the last service in June? If that was just a minor/routine service you should budget for a big service plus tidy-up soon after you acquire the car (probably with next year's service). I'm not very familiar with 993 costs, but I for an earlier car I would budget £1-2K for tidy-up (on top of service cost).
