Service Interval?

2.7 Cayman - bought new and registered in Sept 2015.

Porsche website and manual that the service interval is 2 years / 20K miles. However, looking at the info in the car trip computer it states under the "Service" menu that my car isn't due a service until "28 Aug 2019 or in 38589 miles"! That'll make it 4 years old before it needs a service as I'll only do a few 1000's a year.

Cant be right can it? ;)

I bought mine in October 2015 and noticed the same.........I can only assume that it refers to the 'major' service which is every 4 years or 20000 miles. Personally I won't even wait 2 years before getting the engine oil changed as I think 2 years is a long time between oil changes.

Keith,

I think you mean 4-years or 40,000 miles, which is about right for what Colin has noted. A 2-year service is fine if you're only doing a few thousand miles per year but if it's a daily drive and you're doing 10,000 miles+ per year I'd be inclined to change the oil and filter on a yearly basis.

Hi Jeff

Yes sorry I meant 40000miles.

Given I do lots of city driving I'll get the oil changed when the car is a year old as at this rate it will have done at least 12000 miles !

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, makes sense and I would want to wait that long for an oil service (even with the low mileage I do) but good to know!

Wish RangeRover could sort out their service intervals, annual service regardless of mileage seems a little excessive these days!

Cheers, Colin

You would be surprised how long oil can last these days with all the additives .

Plus the advances in filters and engine cleanliness

I am not suggesting you do this but you could probably run a car for ten years

on the same oil with relatively low mileage 10/15 K

Given that Synthetic oils should not have such tendency to become acidic as the old mineral oils they should be capable of lasting the two years but if doing a lot of short haul trips such as a daily commute then fully expect them to have a greater amount of contamination from running a cold engine hence more carbon etc so at max make it a two year change no matter if the mileage is low. Yes it would be good to clean out the old oil yearly but many cars don't do a great mileage.

Yes, as others have said, major service at 4 years / 40,000 miles and "Interim Service" at 2 years / 20,000 miles. Confused me at first too when I looked at the dashboard display on my 07/2014 Boxster.
