Service Message

Serviced my 2007 987S myself this year for the first time (oil & filter change plus air and particle filters). Recently however a message comes up when first starting the car saying 'Service Now'. Does anyone know if its possible to turn this off without taking it to an OPC or other Porsche specialist? Apologies if this has been covered before!
Many thanks,
Richard

You need to reset the service indicator in the instrument cluster, but you need a diagnostic tool to do it. Durametric will do it, but there are cheaper alternatives, such as the handheld iCarsoft PORII, which works well on the 987, or there are several clone diagnostic devices that will do it. One of the ones I use is a Delphi DS150E, which you can get on eBay for about £65. It can be a faff to install the software on a laptop though.

Edit: If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berks) I would be happy to do it for you.

Richard,
Many thanks for the swift reply!
Now I know (roughly!) what to do, I'll see if I can find someone locally (I'm in Chatham, Kent) who has an appropriate diagnostic tool.
Very much appreciate your offer to do the necessary - if I get really stuck I may well take you up on that.
Thanks again,
Richard

Any local garage should be able to do it. The commercial tools from Snap-On, Bosch, and the like, all have the facility to reset it.
