Gents,

Due a service very soon... Only done 4K since last Jan - but never the less I will still do it.

Now - its just done 82K so is there anything special that I need to be looking at..

Belts, and tension check just done.. Gearbox oil just changed for Mobil synth stuff - all done by GT One.

Obviously will do Oil and filter (15w50 Mobil 1)...

But is there a specific schedule for things like Distributor cap and arm, spark plugs, fuel filter etc etc?????

Cheers
Anthony

Anthony,
No need for fancy synthetic Mobil 1, remember these engines never had it from new, a good semi synthetic will do the job admirably and save you a few quid .
Which will pay for another oil change after 6k/12 months .
Fresh brake fluid would be a good move if it has not been done for a while it goes hydroscopic and gets water ingestion.

Cap and arm - take 'em off and have a look. How old are they? Replace if they are manky or causing problems. (I don't think they are that pricey on the lux's.)

Spark Plugs - always worth replacing. Only a quid or so each.

Leads - as per plug and arm. Check and replace if problemmatic.

Fuel filter may well be the original one. Definitely replace if so. Again, how old is it?

Not entirely true, my 1989 owners manuel recommends using a fully synthetic/hydrocracked oil and they certainly were available then. Besides even if it were the case I still believe a good quality synth oil will provide significant protection over the life of an engine compared to most mineral oils.

Replacing the oil once a year with a good quality synth isnt really that expensive when you compare how much you spend in petrol over the same period.
