Can anyone out there recommend someone/a firm that are really, really good with servicing and problem solving, (say) within a reasonable distance of central London?
The car in question is a totally stock 1988 Lux with 50,000 miles.
I really need to find someone who knows all the idiosyncrasies of 44's.
Regards to all.

I'm sure there are plenty of people on these forums who know about the 944's idiosyncrasies!

What problems are you having? It might be something you can fix yourself

My S2 has been looked after by Northway in my ownership and the previous owner's. Not in Central London, but they're at Beenham, between Reading and Newbury and walking distance from Aldermaston station....hourly trains so easy to get back to London.

May not be the nearest to you, but Ray (Northway) was a Porsche apprentice when the 944 was current so there can not be any 944 problem that they've not seen before. Most problems they can get straight to it...saves you paying hourly rate for a voyage of discovery by someone less experienced!! And anyway their labour rates are reasonable. Also a sensible understanding of the need to plan expenditure on an older car...annual service usually comes back with a comment "next time we'll need to look at...."

Lots of others in Nettlebed, Cheddington, etc. Join the club and get info on the good and the bad!!!

My vote goes for Promax Motorsport especially if its a problem solving issue, but plus one re above ask online because there are some real 944 gurus on here

Regards

Mas

Yes Promax or Autostrasse in Coggeshall, Essex both know their 944's and are the two I have used on a regular basis.

Tower Porsche are somewhere central, hence the name I think.
No personal knowledge but they tend to get favourable reviews.

Another +1 for Promax from me, very professional, reasonable costs and trusted with our cars. RPM are another.

You will need to travel a little outside of London to get what you are looking for, not that some of them arnt good, they are very good, but will charge you London prices for the privilege. Porschembri near Harrow being the exception.

Bob at RGA has looked after mine and always does a great job. He is based in Vauxhall - South London

I think his pricing is very fair and as said I have never had any issue or complaint since I have been going to him - he knows his 44's inside out and I dont think he is the sort of chap to rip anyone off - always get a poke around the workshop etc as well.

On most of the bigger jobs he has taken the time and shown me exactly what was done and the bits he has had to replace and seems very proud of his work. So he gets my vote [:)]

I've used Jon at Tower - they are just on the south end of Tower Bridge. Not all reviews are favourable, but I have used him two or three times and each time has been as it should be (with the exception of timekeeping - he always takes longer to do things than he expects. He doesn't bump the price up to cover this, but don't expect your car to be ready when he says it will be.)

It is very much an under-the-arches place; dirty, scruffy and they look as dodgy as they come. But Jon is a good workman who knows his pork. Number is 020 7357 0911.

What problems are you having? As has been said, there is little that can be that hard to solve on an early 944, and lots of people on here who are very good with on-line diagnosis ...

Oli.

RPM as no one has mentioned it. They were very good to me.

Edit: ops just read the end of coppermans post. Sorry. well call this a second vote then
