Servicing Cost with Oil

Hi all,[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Just a quick question regarding topic really.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The Boxster is going in for it's 24k service this week, and after reviewing this forum, it's been concluded that it's best to supply your own oil (9 litres of Mobil 1 0-40). Now the question is regard to cost. As it's a fixed price - do you get charged the fixed price less the cost of them suplpying the oil ?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I hope that makes sense and sorry but it's our first Porsche so it's still all a bit new.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Thanks for any replies[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Dickster[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

They have always deducted the cost of the oil for me when I've done this.

Sometimes I've had to remind them after looking at the bill though...[8|]

Cheers for the swift response, Mark.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Just out of interest can anyone recall how much they charge for their oil ?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Cheers.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Circa £12.50 per litre [;)]

I got told by Glasgow OPC that I could no longer supply my own oil they had to. Is this not the case generally and can I challenge them on this again given the deatils above?

Hi,
Some OPC's will give you this line, but as long as you are supplying the correct, Porsche approved grade of oil - and remember you need the super long life stuff if you have the extended service intervals - and it is in sealed containers (so they cannot claim it could be different / used etc) I don't see how they can complain, especially when you can buy it retail for less than they will charge you.

Under the new rules, any independent can service the car as long as Porsche approved parts are used, so I cannot see where they can complain if you want to provide your own Porsche approved oil....

In the end, it is pure greed on the OPC part - presumably because of the pressure of fixed price servicing etc

If they won't use your provided oil, and cannot give you a reasonable explaination as to why not, I would try somewhere else. Not all OPC's have this policy

Pete

All the Scottish OPC's have the same line ...will not allow you to supply your own oil.

Claim that it's because it comes from "an unverified source" - but we all know differently!

Dave

And the sting in the tail is that the OPC can select any oil from the Porsche "approved" list and they buy it in bulk containers - so the chances of them putting Mobil 1 in your baby are very slim indeed!! Castrol GTX anyone?

Has anyone ever actually heard of conterfeit oil?

I've not heard of counterfeit oil, but that obviously does not stop the OPC's claiming it. - maybe we should ask them how we verify the source if they have so much knowledge of fake oil [;)]

If you supply your oil in sealed containers with a receipt from a reliable supplier, what issue can they have with it?

Personally I would like to have the option of choosing the specific oil they use, as you say, they can put any Porsche Approved oil into your car

If they charged a reasonable price for the oil then maybe they would not have to have the argument....

Oh but in their humble and very honest opinion they do charge a reasonable price especially when you factor in all the overheads they have going on in those £120ph million pound glass houses affectionately known as Porsche Centres :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
