Servicing Costs

JB 3.2

Has anyone had the larger 'maintenance service' done at an OPC and if so was it any good and what was the cost?

My local independent who is very good charges about £480 including the vat.

I would say stay away... Read other threads on this opinion. Over priced in my experience and the job was never done properly. Ended up going back twice! If they work five minutes on one job and 10 on another they will charge you for two hours. Large Independents are in my view, better skilled and will care and do a better job.

Remember all OPCs are really Independents with Porches badges, that's it.

I've not had the 48,000 mile service carried out at an OPC for about 7 years and OPC labour rates have shot through the roof since then. I didn't think it worth the money at the time, although they had the car for two days (it was 10 hours labour if I remember correctly), and certainly wouldn't at todays rates.

£480 seems quite cheap though, even for an indi, does that exclude parts?

I had 48K service done two years ago: price 722 including spark plugs and brake fluid, but I supplied the oil (that would have been a further £110).
I managed to negotiate a 22.7% discount off the labour rate ( included in above prices) - I also had the front wishbones done at the same time.
Overall I was pretty pleased, but disappointed to find I had been charged £51.50 to change a brake bulb! The smallest unit of time charged is half an hour so, as has been said, lots of small jobs really can add up. I don't have a problem in rounding up the total time to the nearest half hour, but I object to rounding up every job.

Ever since, I have used a local indie where the labour rate is less than half and you only get charged for the actual time spent.

That's terrible. It really is a two minute job. What were they using ? Gold plated bulbs ??

Thank you for your comments.

Just to finish the thread, I had the car serviced at my local independent (Auto 2000) cost for the large maintenance service came to £489 including vat.

No other work was required although the car will need the discs skimmed once better weather arrives.

I'm becoming increasingly disappointed with the OPC - which is a pity as I'm a big fan.
This was after being quoted hunders to replace a front fog lamp that was filling with water. Quickfit removed, drained water, sealed and replaced for £30! seems they are focussed on revenue as opposed to optimal solution.

I have tried two OPC's... my local is simply rude and un-personal, which i avoid at all costs.
The other is very polite and has a great pedigree before becoming an OPC, but having spent over £5K on both cars recently only to find sloppy work such as trim parts not re-fiited and left in the car for me to do I am not impressed.
They were apologetic and said if i bring the car back it will be corrected... if only i had that time!

I am looking for recommendations.. and willing to travel a lot further to get work done.

A pal who works in Holland always gets his car serviced overseas (by the OPC) - but this wont work for me!
I'm considering an independent in West Midlands.

Perhaps we need a "Tripadvisor" style feedback for the GOOD BAD and UGLY... its worked with hotels and they take note!

I live in Docklands with Cayenne Turbo S and late 993Cab.

Colchester OPC have been brilliant but then i do own a 997 and service intervals are only every two yrs. i have a major service coming my way in november which cud be interesting on a 6yr old car! I dont knwo of any 997"s that are Indy serviced yet but 2yr intervals when they are will make them uber cheap cars to run!

Hi,

If you are looking in the West Midlands then i would highly recommend PCT in Coventry. They are on the same site as Autobahn. I've used them for over five years for all manner of jobs on my 993. I've looked elsewhere to try and find a cheaper service but I always keep coming back to PCT.
